Beautiful, isn’t it?

Your Invitation to the 25th Anniversary Event

I

t is with great pleasure that I invite you to join us for the 25th Anniversary of North America’s premiere winter regatta — Quantum Key West 2012, January 15 – 20. A special thank you goes out to the Quantum Sail Design Group for stepping up and filling the critical title sponsor position. Their timely action was pivotal in Premiere Racing’s ability to commit to producing the 2012 edition of this international event. Beautiful Key West, with its warm temperatures, dependable breezes and stunning blue water, is an ideal winter get-away. The quality of the competition at this renowned regatta is always superb. Racing sailors from across the country and around the world will gather to compete against the very best during the day and enjoy that which is uniquely Key West at night. What better way to kick off your racing calendar in 2012! Once again this year, One Design, IRC, and PHRF fleets featuring the latest designs and technology will come together for championship caliber competition conducted by Premiere Racing’s highly regarded race management team. Innovation is a race week hallmark and 2012 brings some exciting changes. New handicap racing initiatives will focus on creating meaningful competition among boats displaying similar sailing characteristics and ratings. Two J/Boat specific classes promise terrific racing, as will distinct PHRF rating bands and the prospect of a new high performance / light displacement class. Separate Mini Maxi and IRC 52 class starts will be headliners for this international rule. As always, one design classes across the board will feature elite competition.

A sincere thank you goes out to our Sponsors and Industry Partners. Their support and participation plays a very significant role in our ability to bring you this world class event. We are grateful for the continued presence of the Florida Keys Tourism Council, B&G, Lewmar/Navtec, Marlow Ropes, Mount Gay Rum and Nautica Watches. Premiere Racing’s Industry Partner Program has an all-star line-up of sailing industry leaders. Please be sure to keep all of these participating companies on your list of preferred vendors. If you’ve raced with us in the past, we hope to see you next January. If you are new to Key West, we look forward to showing you what you’ve missed these past 24 years! We encourage you to check the event web site at Premiere-Racing.com throughout the lead up to Quantum Key West 2012 for updates on racing news and logistics. Please know that your Premiere Racing team will do everything possible to ensure that your experience is a memorable one. Sincerely yours,

5.7.3 Entrants who competed in Key West 2011 and/or 2010 and whose boats will be in the identical configuration do not need to submit the full handicap application. They must instead submit the renewal application and all current PHRF handicap certificates. All other PHRF entrants must submit a completed PHRF handicap application and all current PHRF handicap certificates prior to the December 20, 2011 entry deadline. After that date a late fee of US$100 must accompany the PHRF application. Current local certificate(s) are required of all PHRF entries for measurement verification only. Assigned handicaps may differ from local handicaps and from previous Key West handicaps in the case of a renewal application. A Key West PHRF certificate will be sent to entrants after the Consortium has assigned a handicap and all certificates will be posted on the event web site. PHRF entrants should not wait for their Key West handicap certificate before submitting their entry. 5.8 There will be a High Performance handicap class offered for light displacement boats with LOA ranging from 38-45 feet and an approximate PHRF handicap range of -10 to -70. Typical boat models for this class would include the GP42, Soto 40, McConaghy 38, R/P 45, J/145 and Farr 400. 5.9 International Team Competition 5.9.1 Quantum Key West 2012 may feature an International Team Competition. 9 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The Sailing Instructions will be available on or about January 2, 2012 on the event web site and at Quantum Race Headquarters beginning on Saturday, January 14, 2012.

10 RACING AREAS It is anticipated that there will be three separate racing areas, one for each Division. As entries and class splits are not known this far in advance, it is not possible to assign definitive racing areas in advance for all One Design, IRC, J/Boats specific, and PHRF classes. The preliminary class assignments will be posted on the event web site on or about November 1, 2011.

11 SCORING 11.1 Ten races are scheduled of which three must be completed to constitute a series. A maximum of three races may be held on any race day. Any one design class seeking more or less than 10 races for their series must notify the Event Organizer no later than October 31, 2011. 11.2 For the Melges 32 and Melges 24 classes, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score subject to rule 90.3(b) if at least six races are completed. For all other classes, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. No scores will be excluded. 11.3 PHRF classes will be scored using the handicaps provided by the Key West PHRF Consortium with the actual course distances used.

28

Quantum Key West 2012 | Official Notice and Conditions of Race

11.4 The IRC classes will be scored using the IRC Time Correction Factor using time on time scoring. 11.5 The J/Boats specific handicap classes will be scored using handicaps provided by the special J/Boats Handicapping Consortium using time on time scoring. 11.6 The High Performance handicap class will be scored using handicaps provided by a special handicapping consortium with the actual course distances used.

12 DECISIONS OF THE JURY 12.1 When an international jury is constituted in accordance with rules 70.5, 91(b) and Appendix N its decisions are final. 12.2 Decisions of a national jury are subject to appeal.

13 ARBITRATION For protests involving an alleged breach of the rules of Part 2 of the RRS, a short arbitration hearing will be held prior to a protest hearing. This modifies Part 5 Section B of the RRS.

14 RESPONSIBILITY 14.1 The safety of a boat and its crew is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the Skipper who must ensure that the boat is fully sound, thoroughly seaworthy and manned by an experienced and physically capable crew. Neither the establishment of regulations or inspection of a boat in any way limits or reduces the complete and unlimited responsibility of the Skipper.

“18 kts in 24 kts TWS in Full Control” J/111 is one of the most successful global J Boat launches ever. And with good reason.....this boat flies. J/111’s recent successes sailing offshore attest to the J philosophy that more speed with fewer crew often leads to silverware, too. Class wins in the Chicago-Mackinac Race, Around Island Race (Isle of Wight), Spinnaker Cup, Key West Race Week, Warsash Spring Series and a class sweep of the Bayview-Mackinac Race point to the J/111’s versatility, whether sailing in demanding upwind, downwind or reaching conditions. Owners are quick to remark about the J/111’s ability to accelerate and sail close to the wind speed in light air, and how quick it planes at double-digit speeds when the wind pipes up. Said one owner, “this boat had the fun meter pegged in the ‘red’ all of Sunday afternoon on the Chicago-Mac. We had three consecutive drivers hit 18+ kts in 20-24 kts TWS and in full control. The boat just likes to go fast with none of the drama we’ve dealt with on previous boats.”

With a mainsail on slides and a furling jib, one can be sailing in minutes, and a crew of two can set, jibe and drop the asymmetrical spinnaker. The seakindly hull with high righting moment and an efficient sail plan (no genoas), make the J/111 the most versatile high performance boat on the market – able to be sailed by a pick-up crew in the evening beer-can race or double-handed to Bermuda. J/111 is the next generation onedesign that fits the J Boats formula for one-design success...a boat that is easily sailed FAST and confidently by just about anyone in the family. The icing on the cake is the comfortable sit-in cockpit and spacious interior with standing (6') headroom. Sailboats that are easy and fun to sail are sailed more often. The J/111 is a boat that will bring great joy to its owners for many years to come.
