East West Show Me Shootout St Louis Benchrest Club

June 25-26, 2016 We had a fantastic weekend for the 2016 East West Show Me Shoot Out this year. The weather was not nearly as hot as in years past, and we only had one rain shower during the match. Ninety-three shooters made the journey to St Louis for the match. We started Saturday with LV100. We had very light winds, but high

humidity. Dean Ekstrom won the aggregate with an impressive .1724. He was followed close behind by Joe Fesi with a .1770. Rounding out the top three was Billy Stevens with a .1772. That’s some tight competition with less .0030 between first and third place! Small group went to Mark Buettgen who shot a .081 on the second target of the aggregate. In the afternoon we shot HV100. Joe Fesi won the aggregate with a .1654, Wayne Campbell was second with a .2054, and Tim Court-

ney was third with a .2212. Small group for the aggregate was shot by Cecil Petersen with a .093 on the third target of the match. Sunday morning greeted us with warmer temperatures just to make sure whatever shot good the day before was sure not shoot that day. We started with HV200. Dave Coots had it all dialed in. He won the aggregate with a .1798. Charles Huckeba was close behind with a .1818, and Dean Ekstrom finished third with a .2002. Hugh Williamson shot the small group with a .229 on the first target of the match. We finished with LV200. Rodney Brown won the aggregate with a .2083. Second place was Lester Bruno with a .2191, and Jeff Graves finished third with a .2280. Paul Weihe won the small group also with a .228 on the third target. LV Grand Agg winner was Jeff Graves. He finished with an aggregate of .2131. Second place was Scott Mike Conry with a .2190, and third was Don Rosette with a .2270. HV Grand Agg winner was Bob Scarbrough Jr. with a .2159. Wayne Campbell was second with a .2212, and Lee Hachigan finished third with a .2258.

Yellowstone Rifle Club HBR & VFS Match,

Lienemann Wins Hunter Hensley Takes VFS

The shooters who attended the May 28-29 HBR/VFS benchrest match in Billings Montana took advantage of some pretty decent shooting conditions and began the YRC benchrest season with some great scores. Temperatures were in the 60s and 70s all weekend with moderate winds and partly cloudy skies. We had 8 competitors in the

Hunter Class and 13 in Varmint For Score. In Saturday morning’s 100-yard HBR match Bob Lunder was well ahead of the pack and took first place with a 250-15X. Second was Ryan Lienemann with a 249-7X followed by Richard Lynn in third with a 248-9X. At 200 yards, Tim Naugle fought his way back up to the top and finished in first place with a 246-4X, Ryan Lienemann posted a 245-5X that took second place

by Ryan Lienemann

and Gary Evans came in third with a 243-5X. When the grand agg’s were tallied first place went to Ryan Lienemann with a 494-12X. Tim Naugle took home the second place trophy with a 492-11X and Richard Lynn edged out Gary Evans for third with a 490-12X tie breaker. Bob Lunder had the most X’s overall with a count of 18. We returned to the range on Sunday morning to commence with the 200-yard VFS match. A threeway battle quickly ensued between Leonard Hensley, Rob Seelye, and Tim Naugle. Tim had them beat on the X count until he got caught by some tricky winds and lost a point. Leonard came out on top and took first place with a 250-11X that barely held off Rob’s 250-10X. Tim’s 249-14X put him third place. Had Tim not dropped that point, he would have tied the 200-yard VFS world record of 250-14X. That was a heart-breaker for sure, but as they say you can’t win them all. After a mid-morning lunch break we finished out the weekend with the 100-yard VFS match. Fairly consistent conditions prevailed and six shooters put 250 scores on the board. Gary Evans led the way with 20 X’s that solidly put him in first place followed by Leonard Hensley with 17 X’s for second place. Tim Naugle beat out Ryan Lienemann for third with a 250-16X tie breaker. In the VFS grand aggregate Leonard Hensley got the first place trophy with a 500-28X. Rob Seelye

also shot a perfect match that day and came in second with a 50025X. Tim Naugle took home third with a 499-30X that also gave him the high X count for the day. I want to congratulate the winners and thank everyone who attended the match. A big thanks also goes out to the target and scoring crew, who did an outstanding job throughout the weekend. Texas State Unlimited Seymour Stool Shooters

May 14-15, 2016 I haven’t been to Seymour in at least two years. For some reason or another I couldn’t make it, but I am glad I could make it this time. We faced unusually cool weather for Texas this time of the year and we all knew we weren’t going to have easy weather on Saturday at least. The range provided a very nice breakfast and lunch for the shooters. I didn’t know this and I stopped at a café before coming to the range. I actually drove from Dallas early Saturday morning. It was 3 1/2 hours of driving. It was good to see old hardcore benchrest unlimited shooters, but also a few new faces. I hope to see more new shooters in the near future. Unlimited means 10 shots in a one hole group right? It wasn’t so on Saturday for most of us except Sir Charles Huckeba and a few others. We could run the match without a moving backer. If you see the picture you will understand. Competitor # 121 is one of Sir Charles Huckeba’s targets. I asked him “what are you looking for to determine conditions?” He said “I watch the wind flags.” I guess most of us weren’t watching wind flags the same way he does. I’m sure his wind flags are not just for decoration. Mine sure are. Thank you to John Horn and Scott Hunter for conducting the competition. I always enjoy the Seymour shoot. Oh by the way, all shooters were invited to a Texas steak dinner after the Unlimited competition. I couldn’t miss it. I like sushi but enjoy steak too. Texas steak comforted the shooters very well, especially those of us who shot big groups. I left after the steak dinner. I wish I could shoot HV but I had other plans for Sunday. - -Turk Takano

WWCCA’s Wolverine Challenge

by Bill Gammon June 11-12 2016 I have been here a week now and love it. I have a lot of friends here and my dog Sandy, who accompanies me on all of my trips, loves it. Being old and retired, I can do that. She loves humans, but hates 4 legs with a passion. It doesn’t matter if it is an elephant or a chipmunk. The weather for the week could not have been better and I was looking forward to the pig roast. I laughed when they went to pick it up. They ordered a 200lb pig and ended up with 238 lbs. I helped to unload the thing off the truck, although I was more in the way then not. The tickets, at $15.00 each, were sold out in a matter of hours...all 150 of them. I can’t wait to see the results. Attendance was down and I was at the club house asking the various venues why. They all said that attendance was down in all of the disciplines. Well, so be it. One little comment I have is that people who say they cannot shave paper that thin have never used a porta-john. Anyway the LV100 got started on Saturday morning and the runaway winner was Butch Lipscomb with a .1920 agg; the only one in the teens. Second was Jack Neary with a very respectable .2170 and in third was our own Tim Bassham with a .2404. Small group was a .118 fired by Lee Hachigan on the last match. In HV, Joey Krupa showed us the way home with a .1986; again the only agg in the teens, with that feisty Canadian, Peter Smith nip-

ping at his heels with a .2028. Third was our own Mel Newransky with a respectable .2138. The small group was a .129 by guess who? Mel Newransky. On to the pig roast on Saturday night. Me thinks that WWCCA owes a big round of applause to Don Abramowicz and his crew for the roast along with the trimmings and to Bob for sitting up from midnight to 5am in the morning to watch the pig. There was johnny cake, roast potatoes, a regular bean mixed up with butter beans, molasses and brown sugar, and then the coleslaw. Refreshments galore all you could carry and eat. We then sat around outside and solved all of the world problems. It was a great night. The Saturday night of Sept 17 is the Texas BBQ night, which just happens to be in the middle of our last group match, hum, so be it. Anyway on to the HV200 Ssunday morning. Victor Potts took home the first place hardware with a .2214, followed by Joe Krupa at .2427 and third was Chuck Green with a .2640. Small group was a .214 by Joe Krupa. Joe also won the Grand Agg at .2207, followed by that talkative Canadian, Peter Smith at .2358 and Victor Potts at .2394. Now on to the LV200 stage. Jack Neary was the leader with a .2101, with Victor Potts 2nd with a .2375 and Lee Hachigan in third with .2418. Small group was a .206 by Lee Hachigan. So the LV Grand looked like this: Jack Neary .2136, Lee Hachigan.2453, and Victor Potts at .2528.

This put the Two Gun with Joe Krupa first with a .2435, followed by Victor Potts .2461, Jack Neary at .2527, Lee Hachigan .2615 and Mel Newransky at .2684.We look forward to seeing you in the fall. Boone Valley Ikes in Webster City, Iowa

May 21-22, 2016 The Ikes held its first score match of the year in May and had a great turnout. First place went to Dean Walther 25016X, second went to Bruce Hansen 250-14X, and in third place was Ronnie Berg 250-11X. Next came the 200 yard hunter match. Shooters showed up from Idaho, Washington and Montana. The conditions didn't appear all that bad…if you had the reactions of a mongoose and the eyes of an eagle, which basically came down to one competitor, Paul Gylling. Paul was able to do what no one ever has at this club. He shot a 500 and with the added bonus of 22 pin wheels, cruised on to an easy victory. Congratulations to Paul. Well done! George Lozano

Visalia Southwest Regional

June 18-19 2016 We had a small turnout for this match; only 18 shooters showed. Weather was a factor, as it was in the 90’s all weekend and there was a lot of mirage. The Unlimited 5-Shot was the Southwest Region Championship and the Heavy Varmint was a club match. We shot all 100-yards on Saturday and all 200-yards on Sunday. There was a 14 bench rotation at yardage change. Those who were unable

to come missed a very exciting match. In the UNL100, there were multiple teen aggs shot by George Lozano, Dennis Thornbury, Jack Childers and Tom Libby, but George Lozano’s shooting was as hot as the weather and he won the small group of .053 and the yardage with 0.1014. He then set a possible world record in the UNL100 category! Honorable mention goes to Francis Lee who shot a screamer with a .085 in the same match.

SHILEN HAS MORE TOP 10 WINS IN THE HISTORY OF THE PROFESSIONAL SHOOTING LEAGUE, THAN ALL OTHER BARREL MANUFACTURERS COMBINED.

www.shilen.com

On Sunday, George won the UNL200 with a 0.1439, took the small group again with a .205 and won the UNL Grand with 0.1226… once again setting a possible new world record in the UNL Grand! George continued his winning ways in the HV100 and won this match with a .1980. Dan Lutke took small group honors with a .133. John Verhagen then won the HV200 with a .2629 and George took the small group with a .267. George’s scores were good enough when the HV Grand was calculated to claim that victory as well with a .2403. It should come as no surprise then that the Southwest Region Champion for this tournament is no other than George Lozano. Congratulations George on some fine shooting on a super weekend! June 4-5, 2016 We had pleasant temperatures for our first match of the year; 70 on Saturday and about 80 on Sunday. On Saturday we shot 10 shot Unlimited, the first leg of the 4 gun. The winds were mostly from the NNW and extremely gusty, varying rapidly from 5 to over 20 mph making 10 shot groups an extreme challenge. Excluding the warm-up, thirteen competitors managed to shoot only 3 groups in the twos at 100 yards. Bud Schalles took the 100 yard aggregate with a 0.3620 with only one group in the twos. Terry Hettich was second and

Tom Evans was third. Small group was a 0.223 by Bud Schalles. We had even more fun Saturday afternoon at 200 yards. We managed to shoot only one group in the fives, and none smaller, at 200 yards. Bud Schalles with his rail gun took the 200 yard aggregate with a 0.5879, Terry Hettich was second with his bag gun and Dave Tunbridge took third with a rail gun. Small group was Bud Schalles’ 0.557, the only 200 yard group under 0.600. The winner of the 10 shot Unlimited grand aggregate was Bud Schalles with a 0.4749 aggregate; Terry Hettich took second and Dave Tunbridge third. Sunday we shot the second leg of the 4 gun the Sporter. We started

Oak Hill Gun Club Light Varmint Match

June 18, 2016 Oak Hill Gun Club sponsored a Light Varmint match on June 18 with 14 competitors displaying their skills. The morning started out with fairly mild temperatures and switchy winds. Dean Ekstrom shot steady at 100 yards with a .2390 agg. using his own bullets for the first time and stayed away any large groups. Dean also took small group at 100 yards with a .159 in the last match. The conditions and temperature pick-up for the 200 yard match with gusty winds and temperatures approaching 90 degrees. Louis Kerhlikar lead the way by mastering the conditions and Dean Ekstrom Louis Kerhlikar Jim Carstensen Cecil Peterson JJ Coe Jerry Wick Jim Schmidt Ethan Carstensen Jerry King Wes Johnson Dustin Godman Frank Taucher Mike Godman Stephen Sinksen

Steve Kostanich Wins NW Regional HV/UNL

June 4-5, 2016 by Dan Kjelland The Northwest HV/UNL-5 Regional tournament was held at the Tacoma Rifle & Revolver Club. The weather felt like an early summer and the wind was from the north at 15 mph. Sixteen shooters came together to see who could best handle the tough shooting conditions. Larry Muller traveled from Oregon for the match. It was also nice to see newer shooters Khanh Nguyen, Ira Gross and Bob Schultz at the line again. On Saturday morning the temp was in the low 80’s and the sky was almost clear. Winds were moderate and switching. The smallest HV100 group of the morning went to Jeff Lewis with a .126, but he had to settle for second as Steve Kostanich won the HV100 Agg with a .2194. By afternoon, as the temp increased, conditions picked up and the mirage was boiling. The best HV200 group of the afternoon was shot by Mark Walker at .299 and it was Mark who also won the HV200 Agg with a .2849. Mark then held on to win the HV Grand Agg with a .2740 agg, narrowly edging Steve’s .2782.

Sunday was a great day to bring out the rail guns. The weather was warm and dry, with temps in the high 80’s and lots of sunshine. The pack had dropped to 12 shooters, all hoping to shoot small, if not smallest. The best UNL200 group of the morning went to Jeff at .198. But it was Steve who won the UNL200 Agg with his fine .1547, besting Mustafa Bilal’s .2041. By afternoon, finding steady conditions was difficult. Mirage got heavier as the temperature rose. Mark focused best on the conditions and repeated his performance of the previous afternoon. He shot the smallest UNL100 group with a .122 and won the UNL100 Agg, in the teens, at .1790. Larry Boers was a close second at .1814. But it was Steve who outshot everyone on the day, scoring a UNL Grand Agg of .1863, and edging Mark who shot a .1949. With all of the weekend’s groups in the books our 2-gun winner was Steve Kostanich with his Grand Agg of .2323, besting Mark Walker’s .2345 by a thin margin. Special thanks to Craig Kensler, Karen and Jim Lynn, and Zach Silverton for doing a superb job running all aspects of our match. With their efforts the match went smoothly, despite a problem with

Okie Shooters Oklahoma State Championship & Mid-Continent Region LV

Okie Shooters held their first match of the season on April 1617 at the Luther, Oklahoma range. We had 22 shooters on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. The weather forecast called for rain on Saturday and Sunday 100%. We lucked out Saturday and it was actually a good day for a match. Sunday was another story. The rain started right before the match and continued the rest of the day. Winds were light, but with the flag tails being wet, what looked like no wind, showed differently on the target. Overall it was a good day wind-wise. We had two new shooters and this was their first match; Mike Loyd and Justin Steffy. Nice to have new guys come to the matches. Saturday started with the Light Varmint and Mike Bryant made a statement on the first group with a .120. Mike never looked back and even shot a .439 on his last group and still put a whooping on the rest of the field. We then switched to Heavy Varmint and Joe Hargadine said he was tired of getting whooped and did some of his own whooping. Richard Brensing donated 3 barrels for the 3 classes in the Oklahoma State 3-Gun. Light and Heavy Varmint were shot this weekend so we drew for two of those barrels. Rod Stapleton and Mike Bryant’s names were drawn. Thank you Richard! Later I found out that Mike Bryant had the two new shooters flip a coin for the barrel and Mike Loyd won. Mike Bryant is a classy guy! Sunday morning I woke up to heavy thunderstorms and rain. Storms usually move from west to east, so I thought these will blow through by match time. I was wrong. The storms were moving

very slowly and when I got to the range (40 miles east) it had only sprinkled. We got the frames up and the targets up and boom; the rain started. In the Grand, Darrel Loker’s second at 100 and first at 200 yards gave him the Grand aggregate win. We started the LV200 and Richard Brensing decided it was his turn. Richard started twisting that tuner and started whooping on all the shooters. In the Grand, Richard followed Loker’s example with a second at 100 and a first at 200 yards netting him the Grand aggregate. New Mexico State Championship, Leg 1

Hot. That’s a word not normally associated with Raton, New Mexico in June, but a heat wave that brought 100+ degree temperatures to the rest of the state pushed the mercury into the mid 90’s in the northeast corner of the state. Hot can also describe a shooter who’s doing well, on a ‘hot streak’ as they say. As competitors get ready for the Rattlesnake here in August (World Team Qualifier), and then the Nationals in Phoenix in October, there are a couple of shooters, who we can call ‘warm’, but not hot yet. Only time will tell who is going to heat up for the end of the year big shoots. June is traditionally the first half of the New Mexico State Championship. On Saturday, we shot 10 shot Unlimited 100/200, and on Sunday, we shot Sporter 200/100 (less work for Whittington Crews to move the target frames three times instead of just two). We also have a Heavy Varmint shoot for the competitors who don’t want to shoot their rail guns. In the Unlimited match Saturday morning 15 competitors tested their mettle against the hot windy conditions. Bob Brackney, out of

Wickenberg Arizona started the day off with a small group trophy with a .152. Ed Adams, from Albuquerque and Todd Tyler from Rio Rancho, NM were tied for second with .212’s each. Tonkawa, Oklahoma’s own Mike Cordes, on a bum knee was right behind them with a .215. Adams and Brackney switched places after the second match with Adams’ .162 (small group) and Brackney’s .227. Adam stayed in first place after the third match with a .277, but Tyler’s .253 over took Brackney for second as the Arizonan shot a .386. Durward Wofford, from Cloudcroft, NM shot the third match small group of .213. Adams (.244) kept the lead after the fourth, but Brackney wasn’t going to let Tyler coast to an easy second place finish. He shot the fourth match small group of .202 to keep the heat on Tyler (.225). Adams stamped his mark on the 10 shot Unlimited 100 yard match, with the fifth match small group of .199 (.2188 agg). But Brackney, keeping a cool hand as the temperatures rose, finishing second with a .202 in the match, and a .2342 agg. Tyler slipped to third place with a .364 and .2520 agg. Onto the Heavy Varmint match.

but before we get to that, we need to talk about Greg Smith, out of Albuquerque, NM. Sporting a Duck Dynasty length beard, Smith, an attorney by trade, always participates in the New Mexico shoots. He is known more for being quick witted, quick to lend a helping hand, and some would even say his overall jovial nature (even though others may look askance at that beard,) than for his shooting prowess. Having not shot since August of 2015, Greg was up against some pretty stiff competition in the 100 yard HV. Larry Baggett, Steve Murphy, ‘The Man from Rifle, Colorado’ Roy Damron (who, when talk about hot shooters, was on FIRE last season), were all shooting along with Smith. Murphy, out of Lubbock, TX, started things off with a .238 to Smith’s .248 and Michael Turner’s.259. Tuner, out of Cloudcroft, NM, was shooting .30. Murphy kept first place with a .139 in the second, but Smith was right on his tail with a trophy winning .131 small group. Turner’s .181 kept him in third, and Damron’s .207 moved him into fourth. Smith (.336) and Murphy (.341) switched places after the third match, with Jim Hemmert from Kalvesta, Kansas shooting the match small

group .241. Smith maintained his lead after the fourth match with a .302, but former United States World Team member ‘Uncle’ Larry Baggett was breathing down his neck with a .258. Randy Pumphrey, out of Lubbock, TX shot the match small group of .152. Going into the fifth and final match, the question on everyone’s mind was would Smith be able to hold it together, or would the pressure get to him, as it has countless other shooters over the years? Smith erased any doubts with a match small group of .184 (his second of the match) taking first place with a .2402 aggregate. This is Smith’s first yardage win, congrats Greg. Baggett took second with a .247 and .2582 aggregate. Hemmert rounded out the top three with a .222, .2664. After a leisurely lunch break while the Whittington crews moved the targets back to 200 yards, thing heated up for the 10 shot 200 yard Unlimited and 200 yard Heavy Varmint. Brackney started off hot again with a .609 small group in the first match, followed by Wofford and Dan Sutton, out of Glendale, Arizona. In the second match, Ed Adams leapt five competitors to move from sixth to first with a .498. Brackney moved to second, and Tyler moved up to third place. The top three spots remained the same as Adams stayed hot with a .582 small group in the third match. Dan Sutton won the small group trophy with a .421 in the fourth match, but he couldn’t shake Adams, Brackney, or Tyler out of their top three places. Adams remained in first almost winning wire to wire with the fifth match small group of .658 and aggregate of .3284. Tyler (.748, .3672) bumped Brackney (.919, .3715) to third. Sutton took fourth, and Roger Tillery came in fifth.

For the Unlimited Grand Aggregate, it was Adams (.2736) taking home the first place trophy, with Brackney (.3029) in second, and Tyler (.3096) in third. Sutton was fourth and Bud Mundy, out of Hillsboro, Missouri, in fifth. For the HV 200 yard match, Murphy ended things early, shooting the first three match small groups (.265, .496, and .388) Hemmert’s .504 was the fourth match small group, and then Murphy slammed the door in the fifth with a .436 leading to a dominant victory (.2301) to Hemmert’s (.3289) and Damron’s (.3855). For the Heavy Grand Aggregate, Murphy’s 200 yard agg catapulted him into first with a .2630. Hemmert (.2977) finished second, and ‘Uncle’ Larry Baggett (.3305) took third place. Sunday morning began with crystal clear skies and ideal conditions for the Sporter 200 yard. Roy Damron started things off with a small group of .359, with ‘Uncle’ Larry Baggett right behind him with a .381. In fact, the top eight shooters were all under .500. In the second match, Adams (.431) and Greg Smith (.435) moved to first and second followed by Dan Sutton and Todd Tyler. Tonkawa’s own Mike Cordes shot the match small group of .299. That would soon change. Todd Tyler’s nickname is ‘Catfish’ because he usually hovers around the middle of the pack before making his move and finishing at or near the top of the leader board. Sunday morning, Tyler left no doubt finishing with small groups of .280, .268, and a screaming .170 in the fifth and final match to take home the small group trophy along with his first place trophy for his .1808 aggregate. Dan Sutton came in second with a .2534, just beating Greg Smith’s .2556. Ed Adams, and Kel-

ly Morman, out of Lubbock came in fourth and fifth. After an early lunch as the Whittington crews moved the target frames back to 100 yards, ‘The Man from Rifle, Colorado’ Roy Damron started hot with a small group trophy winning .105 followed close behind by Walt Berger with a .162. Damron and Berger stayed in first and second after the second match with a .226 and .262. Randy Pumphrey’s .152 was small group for the match and moved him up to third place. Damron continued to lead after the third match with a .208, followed by Pumphrey’s .253 and Tyler’s .276. Michael Turner’s .129 was small group. Putting an exclamation point on this Father’s Day afternoon, Damron closed the door on the competition in the fourth match with a small group .149. Baggett moved to second and Tyler remained in third. Tyler’s small group .135 in the fifth match moved him one place ahead of Baggett, but still way behind Damron. Damron’s winning .1810 aggregate, beat Tyler’s .2216 and Baggett’s .2340. Dan Sutton finished fourth and Pumphrey held onto fifth place. For the Sporter Grand Aggregate, Tyler’s .2012 was first followed by Sutton’s .2490, just edging out Damron’s .2527. Bagget finished fourth, and Greg Smith finished fifth in the Agg. And for the first half of the New Mexico State Championship, the Two Gun of Unlimited/Sporter, Tyler’s .2554 put him ahead of Ed Adams’ .2798 and Sutton’s .3067. Bob Brackney finished fourth, and Bud Mundy finished fifth. The second half of the State Championship takes place during The Rattlesnake in August, which is a world team qualifier. by Mark Motsko

Northern Colorado Two Gun

Howdy all! Wile E Coyote reporting from Northern Colorado Benchrest Shooters. Our first match of the year was held June 11-12, 2016. Technically this was our second shoot but weather kept everyone home snuggled in blankies for the first match. Gorgeous weather for shooting graced 25 shooters who came out for Sporter and Heavy Varmint matches. Sporter shooters lined up at the benches, rifles at the ready. Everyone was eager to get started on the 100 yard targets. Rodney Brown dominated with a 0.2386 agg and snagged the Small Group with a 0.1510. Spectacular shooting Rodney! Target frames were moved to 200 yards and lunches were ate; everyone was ready once again. Again Rodney took the 1st place position with an agg of 0.2644. Larry White took home the coveted Road Runner with his Small Group of 0.2790. The Grand Agg for the day went to Rodney sporting a 0.2515. Great shooting Rodney! Sunday’s 200 yard Heavy Varmint was dominated by Larry White and his 1st place agg of 0.2008. Larry also took the Small Group with 0.2520. Larry was smoking. Great shooting Larry! After a quick lunch break to move the targets and settle down from the excitement of the morning, we went

to the line. Phillip Sheldon took the lead in this 100 yd match with his tiny agg of 0.2070. Phillip’s group of 0.1190 proved smaller than everyone else’s! Super shooting Phillip! The HV Grand win for the day went to Larry White with his combined Agg of 0.2237. Beautiful shooting Larry! As always, none of this could happen without the shooters who come to play and the top notch staff, match director and target crew. We hope you come to join us at any of our matches and don’t forget about our Annual Firewalker! by LuAnn Dill In the photo from Left: John Reiss, Barry Benson, Roger Tilery, Phillip Sheldon, Jeff Anderson, Tom Evans. 2016 Agenda Items for the NBRSA Board of Directors Below are a list of agend items received to be addressed by the Board of Directors in their annual meeting scheduled for Saturday, October 8, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona. Please contact your Regional Director if there is an item you wish to be addressed that is not yet included for discussion. There is contact information available on page 39 for each Regional Director. The General Membership meeting will be held during the Group Nationals on Wednesday, 12, 2016 following completion of fire in the multi-purpose room at Ben Avery Range at Phoenix, Arizona. Please plan on attending. Eastern Region Agenda Items: 1. Extend the time between relays from 30 to 40 minutes. I think this can be a good procedure for new membership. (Mel Newransky) 2. Enforce the present 30 minutes by having a digital clock at the site so it can be visually seen by everyone. (Mel Newransky) 3. Establish a time countdown procedure for the time between relays by having the range master state relay x 6 minutes to shoot, relay x 4 minutes to shoot and relay x 2 minutes to shoot. The rule book says 30 minutes and this should be abided by. The time between relays is sometimes shortened and is not the same for every match. This is important to new members as they will require more time to reload. (Mel Newransky) 4. Establish a procedure that would require NBRSA members to purchase equipment from a registered FFL license holder. This may prevent any premature equipment failures or personal injuries. (Mel Newransky) 5. Establish a procedure for the Region Directors and others to visit and conduct a clinic at gun clubs in their area. This would promote interest in the NBRSA and perhaps increase

membership. (Mel Newransky) 6. The other NBRSA agenda item that I am submitting is to have targets scored and posted prior to the shooter coming to the line for the next relay. I do not think it serves any purpose to have targets scored and posted three matches later. The time that it takes to score a target is minimal. (Mel Newransky) Gulf Coast Agenda Items: 1. Discuss with Board regarding 5 NBRSA original trophies from the Gulf Coast region, which hosted the first Nationals event. These trophies are in need of refurbishment and also in need of a permanent home. Request a solution be determined quickly to save these trophies. (Scott Hunter) 2. RULEBOOK: (see items 1-4 below) (a) Scott Hunter to update details to Board listing changes needing to the rulebook since last printing. (b) There are Board-approved rulebook changes in the last few years that have not yet been added to a print revision due to expense of printing and the few number of changes. This is causing confusion, ie: trophy/national fee charges are different from what is printed. I suggest the Board make a “current” rulebook available online at www. nbrsa.org for members to print off as needed which is maintained up-to-date, regardless of printing schedules, so that members/match directors can always have access to an up-to-date rulebook without the need to query the annual minutes. Changes made since the last printing can be colored to identify these to the user and until these are incorporated in the next printing cycle. (c) Rulebook copies have been distributed by many different methods over the last few years and it is not possible to send updates to each person needing one. I suggest the Business Manager publish a notice to the membership through Precision Rifleman to broadcast revision availability to our membership.

(d) Establish Guidelines for the Score & Long Range Membership Meetings Held at National Events: Establish a contact person who is elected or appointed for Score and Long Range Shooting. This person will take minutes at their National events annually and report (either in person or in writing via their respective Regional Director) said changes (if any) to the Board of Directors for action. 3. Proposed Rule for Varmint For Score: If the first shot during the first record match of an aggregate strikes outside the sighter ring and lands in the record portion of the target, and the competitor immediately notifies the range officer for verification, that shot will not be scored as a record shot. Any subsequent shots in the record portion of the target in the remainder of the Aggregate shall be scored as record shots. This rule will apply at tournaments where there is a 10 minute time limit for the first match of the aggregate. At tournaments where there is a warmup match, any shot landing outside the sighter box and onto the record portion of the first and subsequent record targets of that aggregate will be scored as a record shot.” (Submitted by Jackie Schmidt) 4. We would like to suggest that a varmint for score team competition be held at the short range nationals like being held in Hunter Class. If accepted, a group of score shooters will provide a traveling trophy and shipping crate similar to the ones for Hunter Class and would suggest we call it the “Gulf Coast VFS 100 yard team trophy”. I think we can find a sponsor for a 200 yard team trophy if this offer is accepted. (Submitted by Al Elliott) 5. If a range is already registered with the NBRSA, and if a registered member was to attend a clay-break shoot, and the member range paid the $3/shooter/day, would the Board allow publication in Precision Rifleman magazine? Walker Co

September, 2016 Precision Rifleman

Benchrest would be willing to incorporate membership fees to NBRSA into the cost of the first match to increase NBRSA membership. (submitted by Larry Deese.) Mississippi Valley Region Items: 1. Discuss the “First Shot Rule” for Hunter/VFS shooting matches. (Bud Mundy) North Central Agenda Items: 1. Board to consider changing European and International memberships (excluding Canadian) to $60/ year and email magazine subscriptions to these members instead of print copies to save on postage costs. (Terry Meyer) Southeast Region Agenda Items: 1. The Board to add the following statement, “check your competitor number” to official range commands in the rule book. (Steve Lee) 2. Logo Usage: Member requests to make items available for sale with the NBRSA logo and wants to know what he would have to pay the NBRSA to do this, (as a percentage or by piece). He doesn't yet have a plan for what he would engrave but wanted your input on pricing NBRSA would charge. (Wilbur Harris) 3. Screamer Patch: The requirement that there be moving backers for screamer patch awards doesn't seem right. Records, yes, but a screamer patch? Please review. (Wilbur Harris) Mid-Continent Agenda Items: 1. Consider a screamer sticker that could be placed on a shooting box. A person could even write their group size on a sticker with a permanent marker. A sticker would be less expensive than a patch. (Jim Shipley) Northwest & Southwest: No items. President Items: 1. Do the Regional Directors want to have hard-copies of the annual minutes or is online and emailed minutes sufficient? 2. Discuss options for non-registered benchrest match magazine coverage. Can a non-registered club (ie: European clubs, IBS matches

or member club non-registered matches) pay $3/shooter/day or perhaps purchase ad space to have a non-registered benchrest match coverage in Precision Rifleman? World Records Committee: Presently, the NBRSA addresses what are termed, “world records” in group, score and long range disciplines. Page 20 of the Rule Book under Section D Tournament Rules, 13 Courses of Fire says in part, “NBRSA will recognize meters as a course of fire and for records for the European Region only.” As it pertains to European sanctioned NBRSA matches and World Record submissions, I would like the Board to consider the following items: 1. Will this encourage new international clubs/members to join NBRSA? 2. Should there be a committee established to for NBRSA recognized metric world records? 3. Should the NBRSA recognize metric world records in all three disciplines (group, score & long range)? 4. Who would be responsible for keeping these new metric world records? (Submitted by Gene Bukys)

Thomas Henry Guisewhite

May 23, 1942 - April 2, 2016 Tom Guisewhite passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016. He was a resident of Boulder City, Nevada at the time of his passing. He was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania to Robert and Ann Guisewhite and grew up in Bellefonte where he acquired his love of dogs. Thomas played college football for Penn State in 1961 and 1962 and had to quit playing due to an injury. He then went on to serve his country by enlisting in the Navy in 1963 where he served honorably for 6 years. He was an electronics technician specializing in antisubmarine warfare radar. He also served two tours in Vietnam during this time. While serving his country he met the love of his life Rae Ann Boyles in Mountain View California. Soon after, they were married in Bellefonte, PA on Dec. 28, 1966. He was an avid salesman most of his life selling anything from analytical instrumentation, to cars, and motor homes. He was also a business owner of a local fly-fishing shop from 1991-2003. He enjoyed showing dogs, drag racing and off road racing, fly-fishing, camping, photography, bonsai's trap-shooting, and bench-rest shooting at a competitive level. What he enjoyed most was spending time with his family, and dogs. We send our heartfelt condolences to Tom’s wife Rae Ann Guisewhite and his surviving family.

June 26, 2016 Our Idaho State Championship had 10 shooters show up. A diverse crowd from Washington, Montana and Idaho. The conditions were less than favorable. The 10 saw absolute calm to 10 miles per hour winds with mirage you could swim in. The 200 progressed to the point where you couldn't see bullet holes. When the dust finally settled the results were as follows below. Thank you to everyone for coming and making this a successful year.
