Call for Community Participation for The Florida Holocaust Museum's Virtual Yom HaShoah Commemoration Community readings of Holocaust victims' names to be live-streamed on April 21st April 7, 2020 [St. Petersburg, FL] - The Florida Holocaust Museum (The FHM) invites the community to participate in the Museum's annual Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) Commemoration to be live-streamed on The FHM's official Facebook page (facebook.com/TheFHM) on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. This year's commemoration will include a virtual reading of Holocaust Victims' names continuously throughout the day. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., individuals from our surrounding communities will virtually read names of Holocaust victims in 5-minute intervals. This year, The FHM is asking for community participation virtually using Zoom technology. Each participant will be able to record their list of names in advance and all recordings will be shared by the Museum on April 21st. The recordings will take place virtually on April 13th, 14th, and 15th from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Further instructions will be provided upon registration. Through the Museum's educational programs based on original artifacts, archival documents and artwork, The Florida Holocaust Museum works daily to translate the staggering statistics of genocide into individual stories. The Yom HaShoah Commemoration and the virtual reading of Holocaust Victims' names is another effort to remember the victims as individual people with life histories. Reading the names of the Jewish men, women, and children killed during the Holocaust is a symbolic yet deeply personal way of remembering these individuals. Most victims of the Holocaust don't have graves - reciting their names allows for them to be memorialized while reminding us of their human dignity. Hearing their names offers us a chance to reflect on their lives and the events of the Holocaust while renewing our commitment to ensuring that such atrocities do not occur again. If you wish to participate in this commemoration and the reading of names, please select an available time slot for your reading by registering on The FHM's Bookwhen page (bookwhen.com/flholocaustmuseumyomhashoa). It is important that you include all requested information during your registration - your full name, business/organization affiliation, and title, as this information will be used to announce you during the reading. The reading of names will be live-streamed on The FHM's official Facebook page (facebook.com/TheFHM) on April 21st.
