Drive solutions deliver high efficiency to users

Nord Drivesystems presented its wide product portfolio at interpack including decentralised frequency inverters, energy-efficient drives and also high-performance surface treatments for washdown or spray areas.

Whether primary, secondary or end-ofline packaging, Nord says it provides economical, sustainable and tailor-made drive solutions that optimally meet the relevant applicationspecific requirements and, at the same time, can also contribute to a considerable reduction of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Exhibition highlights included the decentralised frequency inverter Nordac ON/ON+, the IE5+ synchronous motor, the patented DuoDrive geared motor and the nsd tupH surface treatment.

The decentralised frequency inverter Nordac ON/ON+ is characterised by an integrated Ethernet interface (Profinet, EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT can be set via parameters), full plug-in capability and a very compact design. The smart inverters are ideally suited for integration into packaging machinery, saving space as well as the extensive motor cable wiring required for centralised frequency inverters.

With the IE5+ synchronous motor, Nord believes it is setting new energy efficiency standards for customers. Thanks to permanent magnet synchronous motor technology (PMSM), it achieves an efficiency of up to 95% – and this is relatively constant over a wide speed and torque range. Meanwhile, the patented DuoDrive is an integrated gear unit/motor concept that covers power ranges of up to 3 kW. It combines the highefficiency IE5+ motor and a single-stage helical gear unit in one housing. The constant motor torque over a wide speed range allows for consistent variant reduction and reduction of operating costs. Together with the simple plug-and-play commissioning, this results in a significant reduction in the TCO in comparison with existing drive systems.

Finally, the nsd tupH surface treatment is available for Nordac ON/ON+ as well as the IE5+ synchronous motor and the DuoDrive geared motor.

Latest design brings new features as well as faster deliveries

At interpack, Herma introduced its new modular Clean Design which means many previous and frequently used special designs can now be presented as standard features across its labelling equipment range.

“Based on our many years of experience with modular label applicators, we have now transferred this know-how to complete machines,” says Christos Kaisoudis, sales manager of labelling machines at Herma. The company converted its entire portfolio of labellers to this Clean Design for the exhibition.

The new Clean Design HMI for the E and M series machines, i.e. for all machines that have their own control system, were also presented for the first time, while the HMI was on display on the high-performance 362E for two-sided labelling on the stand. Another presentation of the Clean Design was on the 652C for combined top and bottom labelling and the 752C for closure labelling applications.

Custom tailoring for multihead weighing systems delivers quality equipment for quick returns on initial investments

Visitors to the Multipond stand at interpack learnt about the company’s focus on achieving greater efficiency and economy for customers by customising the entire weighing process.

In this way, Philipp Kapser, its head of European sales, is confident the company can help customers to meet both current and future market requirements.

“Multipond can be likened to a bespoke tailor, in that we do not offer a standard solution,” he said. “Our weighing systems are precisely like a fitted suit: it fits like a glove, fulfils the customer’s requirements for the best quality and may well be with him for life.”

Kasper also spoke about perceived high prices by stating that a Multipond weighing system usually pays for itself in the first year of use. They can also be easily modified to meet changing future needs.

He also talked about the added benefits offered by its J-generation multihead weighers and its newly developed 18-head weighing system that made its debut at interpack.

“With a target weight of 5 g, for example, we can guarantee a maximum deviation of 0.5% which allows our customers to minimise the amount of give-away and significantly increase the return on their investment,” he explained.
