How to Clean Silver Pooja Items at Home

A pooja room is a must in most Indian homes. Many believe the house is only a brick-and-mortar building until the temple of God is completed. For centuries, the spirit of the house was believed to reside in the pooja room. However, it is also true that regularly used puja items such as flowers, leaves, rangoli, incense sticks and diyas often make this holy place look very chaotic. It will help you a lot to keep your pooja room always clean. Pooja rooms in Indian homes tend to have things scattered all over. Incense sticks, matchboxes, rangoli packets, cotton thread for Diya, oil cans etc. All of these items can become messy and confusing if not stored properly. If your silver items are stained yellow or black, use this simple technique to mask the effect. You can clean silver items with items around the house. This simple, inexpensive method clears the tender silverware within 30 seconds to 3 minutes (depending on the condition of the silver).

Lemon and salt mixture: To cleanse idols and puja items, soak a colour-changing bracelet in a bowl of warm water with 3 tablespoons of salt and a squeeze of lemon for 5 minutes. It is worth noting that a silver and white cleaning cloth helps to remove dirt. Ordinary material is labour-intensive and does not give perfect results.

Using toothpaste: An easy way to clean silver is with toothpaste. To polish and decolourize pooja items and cutlery:

1. Add a pea-sized amount of toothpaste to a bowl and rub in a circular motion.

2. Rinse with water after 5 minutes to remove the toothpaste.

3. After completing this step, clean the traditional silver pooja items.

Vinegar and baking soda: To clean tarnished silver with vinegar, water and baking soda, mix ½ cup white vinegar and 2 tablespoons baking soda in lukewarm water. Soak the silver for 2-3 hours.

Use hand sanitizer: Hand sanitizers are widely available and can kill bacteria, but they also remove dirt, smoke and silver stains. Silver tarnishes over time when exposed to air and light. You can slow down the silver staining process by storing the silver in a closed, dark place. You can use a hair conditioner to prevent silver from tarnishing, store it in a stain-resistant bag, or make a homemade lotion.

Dries properly: Whatever you do, remember that silver samaguri pooja cannot retain moisture after cleaning. Always use a microfiber cloth after washing silver pooja products. Microfiber cloths do not contain abrasives, which helps keep the silver’s outer layer intact. Silver helps retain its properties.
