As indicated on page 90 of the Draft EIR, all construction activities will comply with existing rules and regulations concerning toxic pollutants. Mandatory compliance with regulations for toxic materials during demolition will ensure a less than significant impact related to the removal of these materials during construction. Nevertheless, the Draft EIR specifies that the following mitigation will be implemented. “The University will continue to comply with SCAQMD Rule 1403 (Asbestos Emissions from Renovation/Demolition Activities) and other pertinent regulations when working on structures containing asbestos, lead, or other toxic materials.”

Information about the DTSC’s school programs for elementary schools, high schools, and similar primary and secondary education facilities, is acknowledged. CSULB will coordinate with SCAQMD, the City of Long Beach, DTSC, and other appropriate State and federal agencies regarding clean-up of hazardous materials, as appropriate and mandated by existing regulations.
