Summer reading programs wraps up By Laura McFarland News Editor

POWHATAN – Children in Powhatan County read for the win this summer. When the Powhatan County Public Library and Powhatan County Public Schools once again teamed up for the annual summer reading program, hundreds of children benefited in the way of fun programming, a variety of learning opportunities and access to places they have never dreamed of through the world of books. With the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year, Caroline Shoenthal, youth services librarian, wrapped up her first summer reading program with the library since joining the staff in December 2015 and said it was a great success. The 2016 summer reading program drew 201 young readers who

logged 1,255 hours of reading in June, July and August, she said. Added to the 1,465 adults and children who attended programs and activities throughout the summer and storytimes with the highest attendance they
