Jurcas celebrate 65 years of marriage
TRIAD program lends a helping hand Contributed Report

Bill and Nancy Jurca, longtime residents of Powhatan, are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. They were married on July 21,1951. Their four children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, along with other family and friends, want to wish them “Happy Anniversary” and thank them for being such a blessing. They are a true example of love and devotion.
On June 27, the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office TRIAD began a new program to assist those in need with mobility and quality of life equipment. TRIAD is a consortium of law enforcement, Senior Connections, the Virginia Office of the Attorney General, senior citizens and Social Services. Triad’s goal is to provide crime prevention, and increase the quality of life for the senior citizens of Powhatan County. TRIAD meets the first Wednesday of each month at Saint John Neumann’s Catholic Church on Batterson Road. The group has held several lunch or picnic meetings and hosts a health fair each year. Guest speakers address the group on a number of topics concerning health and wellness and the latest tips in fraud and other crime prevention. Sallie Sanderson of Powhatan County was the first recipient of loan equipment when Sheriff Brad Nunnally and Sgt. B. B. Luxford went by and installed a window airconditioner and box fan in her home. She has tolerated high heat and hu-
midity for years and said this was a great relief for her. Members of TRIAD will be keeping an eye out for people who need various types of assistance and the sheriff’s office will make sure that they receive it.

Sheriff Brad Nunnally and Sgt. B.B. Luxford deliver a new window air conditioner for Sallie Sanderson of Powhatan.
Nunnally said, “We need to step up, assist and protect our seniors. They have contributed to our community, have a wealth of life experi-
ence and information for our county, and often are the most vulnerable.” The TRIAD Equipment Program will offer certain high dollar items on an extended loan basis. The person receiving the item is welcome to use it as long as they need it as long as they continue to live in Powhatan County. When the item is returned it can then be loaned to another resident. These items include wheelchairs, wheelchair ramps, emergency notification alarms, a power wheel chair with a hydraulic car platform, and several others. Less expensive items and those that are less durable such as shower chairs, crutches, walkers, etc. will be given away. Equipment in the program was either donated or purchased using a grant. The sheriff’s office is hoping for another grant this coming year to add to the program’s inventory. The program will concentrate on high dollar items and those not covered by Medicaid. If you know of someone who needs help or want to donate equipment, contact Sgt. B.B. Luxford at 804-598-5757.

PET of the WEEK SPARKY
Sparky is around 2 years old. Sparky was recently adopted and returned. The owner found out Sparky doesn’t do well with cats. However, other than the cats, Sparky did wonderfully. He got along well with their other dog, was clean and was calm. Sparky really wants a chance at a home to call his own. Please consider Sparky as your next best friend.
You can find our other adoptable pets on Petfinder and Facebook. If you would like to make a monetary donation to our facility, you can do so by mailing it to P.O. Box 133, Powhatan, VA 23139

Powhatan Girl Scout Troop 3140 attended Stars in Motion Performing Arts Academy to earn their Dancer badge. Ms. Sara, owner of Stars in Motion, volunteered her time to teach the girls the latest dance moves, which included a performance at the end of the class to show what they had learned. The troop appreciates Stars in Motion for opening its studio and heart to provide a high quality dance experience to Troop 3140.
