2007 PRECorp $cholarships Available Each year Powder River Energy Corporation Awards scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to qualifying graduates of the thirteen high schools in its service territory (Arvada-Clearmont, Big Horn, Buffalo, Gillette, Hulett, Kaycee, Moorcroft, Newcastle, Sheridan, Sundance, Tongue River, Upton and Wright). To be eligible to receive a scholarship the applicant’s parents or legal guardians must be members of and receive electric service from Powder River Energy. The applicant must be a student who is enrolled or plans to enroll in an accredited two-year college, four-year college, or vocational technical school. The scholarships are available to 2007 high school graduating seniors and to students who previously graduated from one of the thirteen high schools in Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan and Weston counties. Scholarship awards are based on academic excellence and financial need, and are selected by a committee designated by the board of directors of Powder River Energy. To apply, the student must satisfy the required criteria and complete the scholarship application, which can be obtained from the high school guidance office or directly from Powder River Energy offices and online at www.precorp.coop. Students may also apply for the Basin Electric Power Cooperative Scholarship. This scholarship is also worth $1,000. One student from the entire PRECorp service territory may be chosen. Electrical Cord Safety Extension cords, with their ability to bring any appliance or lamp within easy reach of an electrical outlet, are one of the most convenient products in the home. But when they are misused, they can be a potential source of danger. Extension cords are generally rated in amps and volts. To determine if an extension cord is properly rated, add the total wattage of each bulb or electrical device, then divide by 120 to calculate the total number of amps. If the total number of amps is equal to or greater than the maximum rating of the cord, you must use a higher rated extension cord. If you were to use a thin cord for a device that draws a lot of current, such as an electric space heater, the cord could overheat and start an electrical fire.
