Potts Print (UK) is the first Carbon Balanced Printing Company in the North of England. We are ISO14001 certified, and we were the first printing company in the UK to hold both FSC and PEFC accreditations.
Potts Print (UK) is continuously lowering its carbon footprint as part of its ISO14001 environmental management system. From little things like switching off the lights, to BIG THINGS like Carbon Balancing, the Potts Greenprint team
implements innovative initiatives to achieve our environmental objective: “To
decrease our environmental impact as the business expands.” We have a target of 0% WASTE-TO-LANDFILL (currently below 1%) and hold both FSC and PEFC accreditation. CARBON BALANCED PRINTING, SINCE 2012.

Potts Print (UK) is committed to continually reducing the carbon footprint of the business and its operations, as part of its ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
Potts Print (UK) works with a local recycling company to manage waste material. In a 6 month period, landfill has been reduced to under 1% of all waste material produced.
In May 2012 we became the first Carbon Balanced Printing Company in the North of England.
Our aim is to recycle (or convert to energy) all waste material produced and reduce the figure to 0% landfill.
The full carbon footprint of the entire operation was measured by the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management (ECCM), and the carbon impact was offset by the conservation of endangered tropical rainforest in association with the World Land Trust. We have conserved 97,500 square feet so far.
As part of our corporate social responsibility commitment, some waste paper is donated to local schools and community groups for use in creative activities.
Our process goes one step (or one giant leap!) further than companies that offer carbon balanced materials.
We offer FSC and PEFC certified materials to our clients, including recycled options.

ALCOHOL-FREE PRINTING No alcohol in the presses means no alcohol down the drains. We run completely alcohol-free presses in our lithographic printing facility.
CHEMISTRY-FREE PRINTING Otherwise known at CTP (computer to plate), this technology uses a thermal process instead of chemicals to produce plates for print.
VEGETABLE-BASED INKS Conventional inks are petroleum based and use alcohol based solvents, which emit harmful Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) when they evaporate. We use vegetable based inks instead.
WATERLESS PRINTING Our waterless Presstek DI digital offset press prints cleaner, sharper images with less dot gain and greater consistency, while also being better for the environment.
EFFICIENT ENERGY All staff are encouraged to switch off lights, chargers, computers, printers and appliances when not in use. Investment in new Apple iMac's and a virtual ‘Wyse’ PC infrastructure has reduced our energy usage. All machines are Energy Star rated.
LOW-EMISSION VEHICLES All new company cars and delivery vehicles have low-emission diesel engines. Vehicle emissions are offset as part of our company-wide Carbon Balancing initiative.
CAR SHARE SCHEME A simple idea that rewards groups of staff for using one car to travel to work, instead of one car each. This has become a popular way for all staff to contribute to CSR as well as the company's environmental aims.
ISO12647 COLOUR STANDARD Potts Print (UK) is working towards ISO12647 accreditation. This colour management system benefits the environment as well as our business and clients, by ensuring accurate and consistent colour matching, which reduces waste.

THE FUTURE OF GREENPRINT Other sustainability initiatives currently being considered by the Potts GreenPrint team include ‘quick wins’ like getting rid of plastic cups in the coffee machines to large-scale projects such as Rainwater Collection, Solar Power, LED Lighting, Biomass Heating and Electric Vehicles.
