+Precious Stones in the Rough A precious stone is a piece of rare and costly gem such as diamond, emerald, ruby and sapphires. One of the characteristics of a precious metal is its scarcity. Another characteristic is durability. A gemstone is a stone that is considered to be precious as it is beautiful, rare, and durable. There are quite a number and varieties of precious stones and some of them include diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires. Many would agree that the diamond is one of the most precious and sought after stones in the world. Rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and amethyst are also highly sought after precious stones. Precious stone can be found in many of the stone slabs used in kitchen and bathroom designs. Stones in the rough are becoming ever more popular in jewelry designs- Nothing compares with the natural beauty of a stone in its purest form- just as the earth created it. 4

+ Emerald I Diamond I Ruby

When the mineral beryl takes on a green form, we know it as an emerald. Highly valued by Mesoamerican cultures, some of the finest emeralds come from Colombia. Beryl is a beryllium-aluminum silicate, and its color comes from small amounts of chromium.

The igneous rock kimberlite sets off a yellow diamond from South Africa, a country known for its diamond mines. At 616 carats, one of the largest diamonds in the world—the Kimberley octahedron—is a yellow diamond.

Rubies, valued as precious gems, are the mineral corundum in its red form. Perhaps the country best known for its rubies was Myanmar (Burma), but the country's production has greatly decreased. Today rubies are also created synthetically in the lab.

Agate

Probably the most famous place that agate is mined is IdarOberstein in Germany where it has been collected since 1548. Other locations to find agate are Uruguay, Brazil, United States, Mexico, Madagascar, Italy, Egypt, India, China, Scotland.

Lapis Lapis lazuli is an ancient gem, and as such, has a storied history. Egyptian cultures made a practice of burying a lapis lazuli scarab with their dead, and believed it to offer protection. The very earliest cultures valued lapis lazuli more highly than gold. Greeks spoke of an ancient sapphire which was included with gold, and this was unmistakably lapis. Some believed that dreaming of lapis would foretell love that would be forever faithful.

Smoky Quartz Smoky Quartz is a grounding stone that transmutes negative energies and facilitates your ability to get things done in the practical world. It enhances organizational skills and is good to have around in the workplace or home office

Azurite Azurite is formed from the oxidation of copper ores. Over time, as it absorbs water, it changes into the mineral malachite. Thus, the two are found together, creating a brilliant deep blue stone with flashes of green. The dark brilliance of azurite speeds the vibration of energy toward the spiritual realm
