Commissioner Janer Highlights Osceola’s Rich History, Bright Future in 'Vibing with Viviana' Video Series
In a recent episode of her ongoing video series Vibing with Viviana, Osceola County Chairwoman and District 2 Commissioner Viviana Janer spotlighted two key initiatives that define Osceola’s past and future — the treasured Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek and the transformative Osceola Prosper program.
Filmed at Osceola History’s Pioneer Village, Janer stepped inside a replica of the Naroossee Schoolhouse to reflect on the county’s deep educational roots and its evolving commitment to student success. The village features both original and replicated structures from the late 1800s, transported from various parts of Osceola County to paint a vivid picture of life before modern conveniences.
“Pioneer Village is more than just a step back in time — it’s a hands-on experience that brings Osceola’s early days to life,” Janer said. “It connects our community to the spirit, resilience, and ingenuity of the pioneers who helped build this county.”
Janer also invited the public to attend this year’s Pioneer Day on November 8 — a free, family-friendly event featuring live music, craft stations, historical demonstrations, and a real Florida market.
Guests will also have the chance to meet resident farm animals, including a goat named Buster and a few chickens that call the village home.

FDOT Continues to Urge Drivers to Prioritize Safety in Florida Work Zones
As road improvement projects continue across Osceola County and throughout the state, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is reminding drivers to stay alert and safe while traveling through work zones.
Work zones—whether short-term or long-term—often include a combination of workers, construction vehicles, lane closures, detours, and moving equipment. Though work zone fatalities account for only about 2% of total roadway deaths and serious injuries, ensuring the safe and efficient flow of traffic through these areas remains a top priority for Florida’s transportation and traffic safety partners.
FDOT is asking every motorist to “Do Your Job” when it comes to Work Zone Safety, and has shared the following key reminders:
• BE ALERT – Expect the unexpected when entering a work zone. Conditions can change quickly.
• DON’T TAILGATE – Sudden stops are common in work zones. Maintain a safe following distance.
• DON’T SPEED – Observe and follow all posted speed limits in and around construction areas.
City of Kissimmee Honors Juneteenth with Proclamation Presented to NAACP of Osceola County
During Tuesday night’s City of Kissimmee Commission meeting, a proclamation was presented to the NAACP of Osceola County recognizing June 19, 2025, as Juneteenth in the City of Kissimmee.
The proclamation honors freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality for African Americans in the community and across the nation.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the day—June 19, 1865— when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
It is a powerful reminder of the enduring struggle for justice and equality, and a celebration of Black culture, history, and progress.
The city’s recognition of Juneteenth reflects its continued commitment to inclusivity, historical awareness, and community unity.
Kissimmee Police Releases Investigation Findings and Reforms After
Firing 3 Employees, Disciplining 5
The Kissimmee Police Department has made public the findings of a 267 page independent investigation conducted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, marking a significant moment in the city’s continued efforts to build trust through transparency, accountability, and meaningful reform.
The investigation was initiated following an incident on April 22, 2023, when thenOfficer Andrew Baseggio used excessive force during an arrest, claiming the individual had resisted. The State Attorney’s Office later launched its own inquiry, which raised serious concerns about the truthfulness and conduct of twelve additional department members who were involved in the case. In response, the City of Kissimmee formally requested a third-party investigation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
A full video detailing the investigation’s findings and the department’s ongoing reform initiatives is available on Positively Osceola’s Facebook Page here!
“I want to be absolutely clear that this type of behavior will not be tolerated, and it was not a department-wide cover-up,” said Kissimmee Police Chief Charles Broadway. “We shouldn’t be here at all today, but we are because a single officer made a series of unacceptable and deplorable decisions, including influencing two other officers to lie, in an attempt to minimize the excessive use of force.”

This year’s festival was nothing short of extraordinary. Hip-hop artist Yung Joc brought high energy to the stage with a dynamic performance, while soulful vocalist Michael Randolph moved the crowd with his powerful voice. Attendees joined in the fun with line dancing led by the ever-energetic Jaz, filling the Civic Center plaza with rhythm and smiles.
The celebration featured a wide variety of local food vendors, offering everything from smoky barbecue to sweet treats, along with craft booths and cultural merchandise, showcasing local artisans and creators.

Fiery Crash on State Road 60 Claims Six Lives in Osceola County
In a tragic crash Saturday afternoon on SR 60 in rural Osceola County, six people— believed to be three adults and three children—lost their lives when their vehicle collided with a semi-truck and burst into flames, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 3:46 p.m. on Saturday along State Road 60, west of South Kenansville Road. According to FHP investigators, a 2024 Hyundai Tucson was traveling westbound when the driver attempted to pass several vehicles by entering the eastbound lane. As the driver tried to return to the westbound lane, they lost control, causing the left side of the SUV to strike the front of an oncoming 2011 semi-truck with a trailer.
The impact was catastrophic, igniting both vehicles in flames. All six occupants of the Hyundai Tucson became trapped inside and were pronounced deceased at the scene. The identities and ages of the victims have not yet been released. The Medical Examiner’s Office is working to positively identify the individuals and will provide those details to FHP once confirmed.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 36-year-old man from Miami Gardens, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Indian River Hospital.
St. Cloud Fire Rescue Earns Gold Accreditation for Excellence in Pediatric Emergency Care
The St. Cloud Fire Rescue Department has been awarded the prestigious gold accreditation through the Florida PEDReady program, placing it among fewer than ten fire departments in the state to earn this distinction for excellence in pediatric emergency medical care.
The PEDReady program evaluates a department’s ability to deliver high-quality prehospital care to children through its paramedics and EMTs. Earning the gold seal means St. Cloud Fire Rescue has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to pediatric training, emergency preparedness, and child-focused care protocols.
“When it comes to providing care for our children, every second and every decision in an EMS call matters. That’s why earning this accreditation is so important,” said Assistant Chief of EMS Alicia Schwann. “At the end of the process, residents will see the PEDReady seal placed on our rescues and will know that their child is receiving excellent care.”
The PEDReady program, operated by the Florida Emergency Medical Services for Children State Partnership, works in collaboration with EMS agencies, emergency departments, and families to improve the continuum of care for ill and injured children. The program’s gold and silver designations are voluntary but are a significant benchmark of excellence for EMS providers across the state.

St. Cloud City Council Approves Additional Staffing for Saturday’s Proud in the Cloud Event Amid Safety
In a 4-1 vote during Wednesday night’s meeting, the St. Cloud City Council approved a motion to provide and fund 10 additional Parks & Recreation staff members for the upcoming Proud in the Cloud event, set to take place this weekend at The Ranch at St. Cloud.
With an estimated 2,000 to 4,000 attendees expected at the event, which celebrates LGBTQ+ pride, city leaders emphasized that the decision was driven by public safety and not any intention to cancel or hinder the celebration.
Mayor Chris Robertson directly addressed circulating social media rumors that claimed the meeting was called to cancel the event, stating his true concern was protecting city assets and ensuring adequate staffing.
“The whole point is I want to ensure there’s safety and security out there,” Robertson said. “We need more staff out there (The Ranch). We have to protect this asset, and it’s not just this group. I do not feel this asset is protected.”
The City had already planned to assign eight Parks & Recreation staff, six police officers, and a fire/EMS crew to the event. With Wednesday’s decision, the city will now deploy a total of 18 Parks & Recreation team members.
Osceola Library System Seeks
Community
Input to Shape the Future of Local Libraries
The Osceola Library System is taking a major step toward enhancing its services and spaces with the creation of a new Facilities Master Plan—and they’re asking the community to help lead the way.
Designed to guide the growth and development of library services, spaces, and collections for years to come, the Facilities Master Plan will serve as a blueprint for what modern, essential library access should look like across Osceola County.
To ensure that this vision reflects the needs and hopes of local residents, the Library is launching a short community survey and inviting every Osceola County resident to participate.
The survey gathers feedback on what residents would like to see in their local libraries— from specific amenities and features to input on where new or expanded libraries may be needed most. It includes sample images showcasing potential future designs, spaces, and services, allowing participants to visually engage with the possibilities and share their preferences.
“We’re building a long-term vision, but it starts with listening to our community,” said representatives from the Osceola Library System. “Whether you use the library every week or haven’t been in a while, your voice matters.”

3 County Commissioner Brandon Arrington Leads Pet Microchipping Event to Support Osceola Pets
Osceola County District 3 Commissioner & Vice Chairman Brandon Arrington hosted a free pet microchipping event last Saturday at Valencia College’s Poinciana Campus. In partnership with Osceola County Animal Services, the initiative successfully microchipped 114 pets, including both cats and dogs, despite “Mother Nature” supplying some rainy weather conditions.
The event aimed to promote responsible pet ownership by offering free microchipping services to local residents—providing an easy and effective way to help reunite lost pets with their families.
Microchipping is widely recognized as one of the most reliable methods for ensuring lost pets find their way home. According to a study by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), dogs with microchips were returned to their owners more than half the time—52.2%—compared to just 21.9% for those without. The impact is even more striking for cats: 38.5% of microchipped cats were reunited with their families, while only 1.8% of non-microchipped cats made it home.
With statistics like these, local officials and animal advocates are encouraging all pet owners to take advantage of microchipping services, calling it a simple step that can make a life-changing difference.

Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital Launches AfterHours Dining to Support Patient Care and Recovery
In a move aimed at enhancing patient comfort and care, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital has introduced a new after-hours dining service for patients who may miss regular meal times due to medical testing, treatments, or late-night hospital admissions.
The extended dining option, which operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., began in April and served 91 patients last month alone.
“We recognize the critical role of nutrition in our patients’ recovery,” said Tammy Foster, director of food and nutrition at Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. “This new service is a simple, but powerful way to support the comfort and healing needs of the patients we are grateful to care for.”
Beyond serving hot evening meals, the initiative also allows team members to connect with patients in the evenings to review breakfast options for the next day, further personalizing the care experience and ensuring continued nutritional support.
Orlando Health, the hospital’s parent organization, is a not-for-profit healthcare system serving Florida, Alabama, and Puerto Rico. With a mission to improve health and quality of life, the system manages over $12 billion in assets and delivers care through an expansive network of hospitals, urgent care centers, and specialty facilities.
Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital Recertified
as Advanced Primary Stroke Center
Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital has once again earned national recognition for its commitment to exceptional stroke care. The hospital has been recertified by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, a prestigious designation that reflects a hospital’s commitment to meeting high standards in clinical performance and patient outcomes.
Originally certified in 2023, this recertification acknowledges the hospital’s consistent efforts in delivering timely, life-saving care to stroke patients. When a patient exhibits warning signs of a stroke—such as facial drooping, arm weakness, or speech difficulty—a “stroke alert” is immediately initiated, activating a hospital-wide response designed to reduce brain damage and improve recovery outcomes.
“Access to rapid, expert stroke care saves lives, preserves brain function, and ensures patients have the best possible chance at recovery,” said Stacy Jemtrud, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, CENP, chief nursing officer at Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. “Our team is equipped to provide this critical treatment to patients in our community.”
Since launching its stroke program in May 2022, the hospital has responded to 1,702 stroke alerts and treated 292 stroke patients—a testament to the facility’s readiness and effectiveness in emergency stroke care.

Draper Law: Which vehicles are more likely to be involved in serious or fatal accidents?
Sadly, serious and fatal accidents take place on a daily basis in Central Florida. These crashes can happen in a number of ways and can be caused by not following traffic laws, inexperience, intoxication, distracted driving, fatigue, and medical issues.
Statistics show that fatal car accidents can often occur based on the type of vehicle. You may think that sports cars are most likely to be in crashes due to their speed and performance. However, according to the NHTSA, it’s the everyday cars, trucks, and SUVs on the roadways that are involved more frequently in serious or even deadly accidents, with sedans and pickup trucks accounting for more than three-quarters of fatal accidents. If you drive out on the roadways, here’s what you need to know about which vehicles have been involved in many of the crashes.

There’s
a New Emperor in Town: SeaWorld Orlando Welcomes Emperor Penguins to Antarctica Realm
SeaWorld Orlando is welcoming royalty this summer—feathered royalty, that is. For the first time in the park’s history, Emperor Penguins, the largest and most majestic of all penguin species, are arriving at the Antarctica Realm beginning June 14, making SeaWorld Orlando the only place in the Western Hemisphere where guests can see these incredible birds in person.
Known for their impressive size, elegant black-and-white plumage, and remarkable adaptations to life in Antarctica, emperor penguins are true icons of the icy wilderness. These birds can dive deeper than any other bird species, with some plunges reaching more than 1,800 feet. Their courtship, nesting, and chick-rearing behavior has fascinated scientists and animal lovers alike for decades.
SeaWorld Annual Pass Members will receive exclusive early access to the new habitat on June 12 and 13, giving them a first glimpse of the emperors’ commanding presence and unique behaviors before the exhibit opens to the general public.
To celebrate the emperor penguins’ grand arrival, SeaWorld has partnered with the Creative City Project to launch “Big City Penguins,” an imaginative art installation featuring three towering penguin sculptures placed on rooftops across Downtown Orlando. The playful display includes two 14-foot-tall adult penguins and a 10-foot baby penguin, giving locals and visitors alike a whimsical preview of what’s to come.
