St. Cloud to Host Free Autism Awareness Event at Hopkins Park April 10
On Thursday, OUC – The Reliable One celebrated the grand opening of the largest solar energy center in its history. The 149-megawatt (MW) project, located east of St. Cloud on two separate 600+-acre sites, will more than double OUC’s existing solar capacity.
The addition of Harmony II and Storey Bend Solar Energy Centers brings the total capacity of OUC’s solar energy portfolio to 271.5 MW – producing enough solar energy to power 50,000 typical OUC homes.
On April 10, leaders from OUC, AdventHealth and Comcast NBCUniversal gathered in Osceola County to unveil the Harmony II and Storey Bend Solar Energy Centers. The two entities have signed on as anchor tenants – subscribing to a significant portion of each solar energy center through OUC’s SunChoice community solar program.
SunChoice enables commercial and residential customers to support solar energy, while offsetting all or part of their electric consumption. Customers can meet their sustainability goals, without installing or maintaining the infrastructure themselves.
Florida Renewable Partners, a wholly owned subsidiary of NextEra Energy, Inc., developed the solar energy centers. OUC has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement to receive the energy generated at Harmony II and Storey Bend.

Elementary in St. Cloud Selected for 2025
to
Educate
Program to Support Students in Need
Lakeview Elementary School in St. Cloud is one of four Central Florida schools selected to receive a transformative renovation through the Addition Financial Foundation’s 2025 Renovate to Educate program.
This year’s initiative marks a shift in focus from updating individual classrooms to enhancing entire “needs spaces” that provide essential resources for students and families facing financial hardship.
A “needs space” is a dedicated area within a school that offers access to food, clothing, and personal items for unhoused or low-income students.
By upgrading these areas, the Addition Financial Foundation hopes to create more inclusive environments that support the well-being and success of every student. The Foundation collaborated with local school districts to identify campuses where these renovations could have the most meaningful impact.
In addition to Lakeview Elementary, the other selected schools include Engelwood Elementary (Orange County), Millennium Middle (Seminole County), and Leesburg Elementary (Lake County).

With 30-Day Warning PeriodCloud
The City of St. Cloud’s new School Zone Speed Safety Program officially goes live today, initiating a 30-day warning period for drivers caught speeding through designated school zones. Beginning Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the program will transition from warnings to $100 citations for violators.
“This program will help protect students and faculty on their way to and from our schools,” said St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke. “This warning period will reinforce to drivers the importance of safe driving behavior, helping the City of St. Cloud to create safer streets.”

Toho Water Authority Schedules April Meetings for Public Input on Water Fluoridation
Toho Water Authority (Toho) is inviting customers to take part in a series of upcoming community engagement meetings focused on the use of supplemental fluoride in the region’s water supply.
As conversations surrounding water additives gain attention both statewide and nationally, Toho is providing residents with the opportunity to ask questions, share feedback, and engage directly with Toho representatives on this important public health topic.
According to Toho Water, their water supply contains naturally occurring fluoride at approximately 0.35 mg/L and the utility adds supplemental fluoride to the recommended 0.7 mg/L level, which is consistent with current U.S. Department of Health and Human Services guidance.
In response to recent discussions about fluoride and guidance from the Florida Surgeon General recommending against community water fluoridation, Toho hired a third-party to assemble available information about community water system fluoride practices, benefits, and concerns. Toho will present this information during the scheduled community meetings.

Spring Has Sprung – and So Have Florida’s Black Bears
With springtime in full swing, Florida’s wildlife is waking up—including black bears. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is reminding residents to stay BearWise as bears become more active in search of food and water.
As March arrives, bears emerge from their winter dens with hearty appetites, and they won’t hesitate to take advantage of an easy meal. Unsecured garbage, bird seed, and pet food are all strong attractants and can quickly turn your yard into a bear hotspot.
To avoid unwanted bear encounters, be sure to secure trash cans, bring pet food indoors, and take down bird feeders when bears are active.
Taking these simple steps not only helps keep bears wild, but also prevents mother bears from teaching their cubs that neighborhoods are a reliable source of food.
Stay BearWise®, protect your home, and help keep Florida’s bears—and your community—safe this spring.
Here are some other BearWise® Basics to keep in mind:

Gardner’s 30-Point Masterclass Lifts Osceola Magic to Game 1 Win in NBA G League Finals
Myron Gardner saved his best for the brightest stage.
The Osceola Magic forward exploded for a postseason career-high 30 points, including 21 in the second half, to power Osceola past the Stockton Kings 129-118 in Game 1 of the NBA G League Finals presented by YouTube TV on Tuesday night. With the win, the Magic take a commanding 1-0 series lead and head west with a chance to clinch their first-ever G League title on Friday in Stockton.
Gardner wasn’t just filling up the stat sheet—he was everywhere. In addition to his scoring outburst, he collected six steals and served as the emotional anchor in a game that saw both teams deadlocked at 60-60 at halftime.
“This group just understands when someone’s hot, you feed him,” said Head Coach Dylan Murphy. “Tonight, it was Myron. I was just standing there watching them call plays for each other. Even Mac [McClung] was saying, ‘We need to get it to Myron.’ That’s what we did.”
Mac McClung, no stranger to playoff heroics, poured in 29 points and added seven assists, serving as the perfect complement to Gardner’s hot hand. Ethan Thompson provided a crucial spark to open the third quarter, scoring eight of the team’s first 12 points after the break to help the Magic pull away for good.
Harmony Survives Wild Sixth Inning to Edge St. Cloud 7–6
and Claim Third Straight OBC Title
Harmony sent 13 men to the plate in the decisive sixth inning – scoring five runs without hitting the ball out of the infield –to defeat rival St. Cloud, 7-6, in the title game of the 2025 Orange Belt Conference baseball championship on Friday night.
Holding a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth, Bulldogs’ relief pitcher Sean Gallagher appeared on cruise control when he retired his seventh straight on a pop-out to open the inning. But after Alexavier Lebron’s pop-up fell for an error, Matt Grau reached on a walk to chase Gallagher from the game. From there, the flood gates would open as Westin Thompson reached on an infield hit and reliever Bryan Wright would walk the next three batters as Harmony took a 5-4 lead.
Relief pitcher Sebastian Echeverry did not fare much better, issuing two more basesloaded walks to force in two more Longhorn runs and extend the lead to 7-4.
Still there was no quit in the Bulldogs.
Sammy Echeverry led off the top seventh by ripping a double to dead center field. Pitcher Weston Thompson, who relieved Longhorn starter Trevin Bean in the fourth, recorded two quick strikeouts before issuing back-to-back walks to Josh Bejarano and Cole Davis to load the bases. Harmony closer Ismael Rivera relieved Thompson and promptly uncorked a wild pitch that scored Echeverry and cut the gap to 7-5.

A Very Special Champion’s Spirit: Poinciana’s Marvin Cherry Inspires at Regional Weightlifting
On Saturday, the top 160 high school weightlifters gathered at St. Cloud Gymnasium for the Class 3A, Region 3 championships. Surprisingly, the largest roar from the crowd did not come for St. Cloud record-setting hometown lifter Mikey Ziss or any of the other competitors trying to qualify for next week’s state championships.
Instead, the loudest applause was reserved for an athlete who captured both the spotlight and the hearts of everyone in the gym.
When Marvin Cherry stepped to the platform to attempt a clean-and-jerk lift, practically every competitor gathered around the platform and shouted encouragement as Cherry successfully completed the lift. As he completed it, the crowd still exploded in applause for Cherry, a Poinciana special education senior with Down’s Syndrome.
It was a culmination of an outstanding season for Cherry, who was competing at the varsity level in a sport he loves.
Cherry became interested in weightlifting through Special Olympics, but when that seasonal program ended in the Fall, his mother Sheron Boothe contacted the Poinciana High to see what other programs might become available.

INJURY LAW Draper
Law: Which vehicles are more likely to be involved in serious or fatal accidents?
Sadly, serious and fatal accidents take place on a daily basis in Central Florida. These crashes can happen in a number of ways and can be caused by not following traffic laws, inexperience, intoxication, distracted driving, fatigue, and medical issues.
Statistics show that fatal car accidents can often occur based on the type of vehicle. You may think that sports cars are most likely to be in crashes due to their speed and performance. However, according to the NHTSA, it’s the everyday cars, trucks, and SUVs on the roadways that are involved more frequently in serious or even deadly accidents, with sedans and pickup trucks accounting for more than three-quarters of fatal accidents. If you drive out on the roadways, here’s what you need to know about which vehicles have been involved in many of the crashes.

Prostate Wellness: Dietary Choices from Orlando Health That Make a Difference
Eating right can keep your heart, digestion and brain functioning properly, but did you know a healthy diet can help your prostate, too? While there are certain factors outside of your control that affect prostate health, such as your age and family history, making healthy lifestyle choices can help prevent prostate problems.
Why Prostate Health Matters
An important part of a man’s reproductive system, the prostate is a small, walnut-sized gland below the bladder and in front of the rectum. The prostate produces fluid that contains enzymes, minerals and proteins that nourish and transport sperm.
Maintaining prostate health is important for men of all ages, but as you get older and risk increases for complications like incontinence, sexual dysfunction and prostate cancer, it’s even more essential.

Orlando Health: Strengthen Your Aging Bones with Smart Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Choices
As you grow older, it is inevitable that your bones will become more fragile. It’s simply part of your body’s natural life cycle. But that doesn’t mean you are powerless to slow the process – or bolster the strength of your bones to avoid osteoporosis.
From the time you are born, your bone tissue is constantly breaking down and rebuilding, through bone remodeling. The process operates at different rates throughout your life.
You reach peak bone mass in your 20s and then hit a period of stability throughout your 30s. But then sometime in your 40s and 50s, your bones start breaking down faster than your body can rebuild them.
