OBITUARIES Herman Hirsch Dr. Herman L. Hirsch, 92, of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away July 30, 2016 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville with his wife and children by his side. He was born January 12, 1924 in Poseyville, Ind., to John and Rose (Ziliak) Hi h Hirsch. Herman grew up in Poseyville with his sisters, Mary and Rita and brothers, Linus, Clinton, Charles, and Bob. After graduating from Poseyville High School, where he played football and basketball, Herman served in the U.S. Army for three years in both Europe and Japan. After returning home, he attended St. Louis University and St. Louis University Medical School. Upon graduation, Herman began practicing family medicine in Mount Vernon, Ind. He was in private practice for 25 years and was proud to have brought more than 2,000 babies into this world. Herman loved the practice of medicine and delivering babies was one of his favorite parts. He made house calls almost daily during this time because when his neighbors needed help, he felt he should be there, no matter the time of day. Herman was pleased to have helped many people in Mount Vernon and the surrounding area and was known for his kindness. In 1980, he retired from private practice and worked as the plant doctor for General Electric, serving there for 15 years. Herman was known as ‘Herm,’ ‘Doc,’ and ‘Dr. Herm’ and he was committed to helping people with his medical skills. He enjoyed life and appreciated his many friends in Posey County. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Reising; brothers, Linus, Clinton, Charles and Bob Hirsch. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane (Higgins) Hirsch; daughter, Ann Bourne; sons, Bill (Patricia) Hirsch, Jim (Troy) Hirsch, and Jeff (Lindsay) Hirsch; sister, Rita Kuhlman; grandchildren, Jeremy (Mindy) Bourne, Erik (Jamie) Bourne, Adrienne and Colin Hirsch, Jeffrey Kyle, Caleb, and Jane Hirsch; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 421 Walnut Street, Mount Vernon, Ind., with Fr. James Sauer officiating and burial to follow in St. Matthew Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main Street, Mount Vernon. Debra Gibbs Debra E. (Varner) Gibbs, 61, passed away Saturday July 30, 2016 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Ind. She was born in Princeton, Ind., on December 24, 1954 to the late Francis Earl and Phyllis Jean (St ) Varner. V (Straw) Debra was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, working puzzles and word searches. Survivors included her fiancé, Roger Jefferies of Princeton; children, Paul (Jamie) Gibbs of Poseyville; Angela Gibbs and Dana Schmitt of Ft. Branch; five grandchildren, Josh Roll, Kody Middleton, Rebecca Lamica, Dawn Miller and Jaxon Amyllia; one greatgrandson, Leelend Middleton with one on the way; sister, Frances Jean (Jerry) Wheeler; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marion Curtis ‘Buddy’ Varner. Service will be held on Wednesday August 3, 2016 at Noon at Holders Funeral Home with Donnie Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in the Saulmon Cemetery near Poseyville. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time. Memorial contribution may be made in Debra’s memory to the Saulmon Cemetery. George Ewing George ‘Jody’ Ewing, Jr., 91, of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away July 26, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born October 31, 1924 in Central City, Ky., to George Sr. and Lois (Settlemeirs) Ewing. G d t d from f George graduated Spottsville High School, Class of 1943. He served in the United States Army during WWII. After his military career, George worked in sales at Goodyear Tire in Henderson, Ky., where he grew up. He owned and operated Ewing Tire Service in Mount Vernon for 53 years, retiring in 2006. George was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks, American Legion Post 5, and a charter member of Western Hills Country Club. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 67 years, Ann (Pruden) Ewing; and sisters, Virginia Carter and Lockie Harris. He is survived by his daughters, Susie (Brian) Brown, Tonya (Dan) Snyder, and Lee Ann (Stuart) Johnson; grandchildren, Seth Brown, Samantha Brown (Rohi) Fentress, Sam and Kinsey Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service were held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2016 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main Street, Mount Vernon, Ind., with Rev. Dallas Robinson officiating and burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., service time on Friday at the funeral home. Marvin Gray Marvin Gray, 75, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at 11:05 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center with his family by his side. Marvin was born in E ill JJune 24 1941 the son of the late George Evansville 24, 1941, Grey and Ruby Jennette. He was Evansville’s patriotic icon dressing in red, white and blue and carrying the American Flag at all times. Marvin loved photography and all the color he could capture in his pictures which is why Marvin spelled his last name with an ‘a’ Gray, the name of a color. For the past 50 years, he supported all the local sporting events and was also well-known for raising the American flag at Bosse Field events and operated their scoreboard for many seasons. Marvin had a brilliant memory for names, scores, dates, athletic achievements and more. He will be missed by those who knew him and his presence in the city. Marvin is survived by his sister, Carol Mills (Mike), and brother, Melvin Grey (Cissy) all of Evansville. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Larry and Wayne Grey. Bette J. (Cameron) Blockson, 85, of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away July 27, 2016 at Mount Vernon Nursing Home. She was born June 25, 1931 in Mount Vernon, Ind. She was the oldest daughter of 10 to George ‘M tt’ and d El tl d ‘Mutt’ Elma (R (Rutledge) Cameron. Bette graduated from Mount Vernon High School, Class of 1949 and attended Lockyear Business College. She was a sales director for Princess House and Petra Fashions. Bette was a member of Mount Vernon Community Church-Black’s Chapel, United Methodist Women, Rebekkah Lodge, Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and Women of the Moose. She was a charter member of the Mount Vernon Lady Lions and active in 4H. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid cook, enjoyed traveling, crocheting, and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard ‘Blockie’ Blockson; son, Joseph G. Curtis; brother, Arthur ‘Bud’ Cameron; sisters, Margaret Ann Chamberlain, Frances Hobson, Mary Jane Pierce, Phyllis Gross and Linda Sue Cox. She is survived by her sons, James K. Curtis of Evansville, Ind., and Jon Todd (Jenny) Curtis of Genarp, Sweden; daughters, Linda J. (James) Oliver of Princeton, Ky., Glenda J. (Jerry) Damm of Evansville, Ind., Brenda J. (Larry) Gunter of Norris City, Ill., Cinda J. (James) Reinitz, and Kenda J. (Thomas) Hartmann both of Mount Vernon, Ind.; brothers, Paul and Steve Cameron both of Mount Vernon, Ind., and Richard (Katie) Cameron of Rockport, Ind.; an aunt, Augusta Ashworth; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Edelene Sinnett Edelene Sinnett, 92, of Posey County, passed away peacefully Tuesday night July 26, 2016. She was born June 21, 1924, the daughter of Homer and Zelpha (Pate) Blair. C Terrace General With a true servant’s heart, Edelene, known to close friends and family as Eddie or Ms. Eddie, could be found on any given day in her kitchen with her renowned hospitality ready to meet, greet and feed you. Her love for the Lord, her husband and her family was shown through everything she did. More youthful than her years, her warm heart, colorful and sometimes sassy personality, was reflected in her flare for style and love for the bird, with its vibrant colors, the peacock. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Arnold Sinnett, and her son Gregory, wife Phyllis Sinnett, brother, Byers (Jean) Blair. Surviving are her children; daughters Brenda, husband Bill Rohrbacher of Texas, Sherri, husband Joseph Wassmer, and son Mark, wife Jenni Sinnett. She was adored by her nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren; and her brother, Edgar Lee ‘Shorty’ Blair. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday August 1, 2016 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 East Fourth Street, Mount Vernon with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville. Faye Crutsinger Faye Ann (Rinehart) Lampton Crutsinger, 78, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016, at New Harmonie Healthcare Center. She was born September 2, 1937, in Evansville, Ind., to the late Alva E., Sr. and Mi i G f d) Ri Minnie G. (C (Crawford) Rinehart. She graduated from Central High School and later worked as a real estate agent. Faye loved to cook and enjoyed family gatherings. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Faye was preceded in death by her great-grandchild, Raylen; sisters, Sharon and Gail; and brothers, Alva and Eddie. She is survived by her children, Doyle (Charlene) Lampton and Darla Faye (Chris) Barrow; grandchildren, Amanda Gregory, Sara Ann D’Angelo, Billy Lampton; great-grandchildren, Graysen, Jensen, Issac, Gavin, Emerson Faye and Nichalous Jensen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at Alexander West Chapel, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.
