OBITUARIES Sarah Gross

Linda Walker Linda M. (McCutchan) Walker, 71, of Groton, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 after a long illness. Born in Independence, Ks., she was the daughter of the late Harold and Betty (Williams) McCutchan, and lived in Groton since 2001 previously residing in Mystic. Linda was a registered Nurse for 42 years retiring in 2008, where over 20 years of her career was with Pequot Health Center in Groton. She loved dogs, sports, and knitting; and Linda was an accomplished horseback rider. She is survived by her two children, L. Mathew Walker (Kelley Flynn) of North Reading, Ma., and Laura Dietz (Matthew) of Niantic; three siblings, Marcia McCutchan, Keith McCutchan (Connie) and Brian McCutchan (Puddy) all of Mount Vernon, Ind.; three grandchildren, Aiden and Jackson Dietz and Kathryn Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Ray of Light Farm (www.rayoflightfarm. org), American Cancer Society, or Alzheimer’s Association.

JoAnn Wade JoAnn (Duckworth) Wade, 81, went to be with the Lord and reunited with the love of her life, Robert, on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. She was born October 17, 1935 to the late Glenn and Mary (Wasson) Duckworth. JoAnn was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ. She was a loving mother, grandma, and great grammy. She loved quilting and made many for family and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Glenn; her parents; husband, Robert; and brothers, Ray, Don, and Merle Duckworth. She is survived by three sons, Roger (Missy) Wade of New Harmony, Robert Wade of New Harmony, and Rodney (Jane) Wade of Wadesville; eight grandchildren, Nicole, Seth, Celeste, Ellen, Alex, Jena, Mackenzie, and Autumn; seven great-grandchildren, Karlie, Emma, Walker, Tucker, Mason, Briley, and Zoey; sister, Darlene (Jim) Fisher, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life was held at 12 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Mount Zion General Baptist Church. There will be no visitation before the funeral as per her request. Rosalie Witt Rosalie (Marse) Witt, 89, of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2017, at Solarbron in Evansville, Ind. She was born November 25, 1927 in Posey County, Ind., to Johnny and Nora (Barton) Marse. Rosalie was a 1945 graduate of Wadesville High School. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a former past president. Rosalie enjoyed golfing and playing cards. She was also an avid basketball and baseball fan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles Witt; and brother, James Marse. She is survived by her son, Jeff Witt; daughters, Judy (Jim) Estes and Debbie Witt; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Witt; grandchildren, Valerie Estes (Benson) Clark and Josh Witt; two step-grandchildren, Sarah Eaton and Jim Munsell; two great-grandchildren; and five step-greatgrandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main Street, Mount Vernon, Ind., with Rev. Tom Hubachek officiating and entombment to follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum in Evansville. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the funeral home. William Whiteley

Sarah K. (Goff) Gross, 53 of Mount Vernon, left this world on Tuesday, January 30, 2017 to join our heavenly Father, leaving her loving husband, Paul W. Gross to grieve this sad loss. Sarah was born on November 19, 1963, in Evansville, to Dolly (Shelton) and Harold Goff. She belonged to the Women of the Moose, American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary. Sarah leaves her husband, Paul, and their baby Rita Mae; her mother, Dolly Goff; sisters, Dolly Jean (Tom) Winegar and Lisa (Jason) Huey, all of Mount Vernon; stepdaughters, Rebecca (John) Forsee of Mount Vernon and Laura Miller of Evansville; grandchildren, Cody (De’Shea) Kueber, Brianna (Kipp) Schutz, Janna Nickell (Chris Heriges), McKensie Miller and Samantha Forsee; great-grandchildren, Myka Kueber, Khai and Lucian Heriges; nieces and nephews, Matt and Casey Winegar, Kelsey and Skyler Hadley, and Jaiden Huey, Tommy, Sunny and Andy Goff, and several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her baby girl, Misty Tyler, father, Harold Goff; and brother, Dennis Goff. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Visitation was from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the funeral home. Andrew Simutis Andrew David Simutis, 15, of East Amwell Township, N.J., died Friday, February 3, 2017, at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Born in Ames, Iowa, August 31, 2001, son of Frank and Catherine Simutis, he formerly resided in Mount Vernon, Ind. Andrew was an Eagle Scout with Troop 397 in St. Philip, Ind., and an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Ind. Surviving in addition to his parents are three brothers: Frank Simutis III, Michael Simutis, and Joseph Simutis, all of East Amwell Township, N.J.; his paternal grandparents: Frank and Joyce Simutis of Watseka, Ill.; maternal grandfather Jim Kobyluk of Mount Vernon, Ind.; greatgrandfather Charles Simcoe of Watseka, Ill.; two aunts: Tanya (Rod DeRienzo) Kobyluk and Jennifer (Stewart) Wagener; two uncles: Jeff (Melanie) Simutis and Rob Simutis; and two cousins: Oona Haigh and Ozzi DeRienzo. A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Jim Sauer and Rev. Timothy Christy will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, N.J. William “Bill” Whiteley, 73, of Evansville, passed away Friday, January 27, 2017. He was born May 15, 1943, in Belleville, Ill., to the late Walter and Mary (McNail) Whiteley. He served in the US Army and was a huge history buff. Bill retired from GAF in Mount Vernon, Ind., after 33 years of service, and worked part-time at USI. He was a loving father and proud grandpa who loved to show off pictures of his grandchildren to anyone around. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Whiteley; and his parents. He is survived by his sons, Shannon (Lori Rouse) Whiteley and Christopher (Kacie Perigo) Whiteley; and grandchildren, Camren, Alaina, Ryland, Eislin and Dylan Whiteley. Betty Hannah Betty (Sexton) Hannah, 93, of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Solarbron in Evansville, Ind. She was born September 17, 1923 in Oakland City, IN to R.F. and Virginia (Doty) Sexton. Betty was a beloved teacher at Farmerville Elementary for three generations of students. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Betty liked playing bridge with friends. She very much enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years and the love of her life, Glen L. Hannah; her parents; and sister, Gerry Cooper. She is survived by her sons, Steve (Marcy) Hannah of Evergreen, Co., and Joe (Cherryl) Hannah or Zionsville, Ind.; grandchildren, Chris Hannah, Laura Esmond, Andrea Obert, Tess Hannah, Nick Hannah and Caroline Booth; ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Bonnie Rhoads. He was a graduate of Evansville College and Purdue University. Allen retired as a manager from General Electric. He enjoyed fishing and golf.
