Heart Attack claims life of former Posey EMS Director Kirby Russell Kirby Joe Russell, 49 of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away Sunday morning October 18, 2015 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was born April 5, 1966 the son of Edward and Margaret (York) Russell. Ki b graduated d t d ffrom Mount Vernon High School Kirby in 1984. He pursued his passion of caring for others as an EMT, Paramedic and Director of the Posey County Emergency Medical System. He continued his education and became a nurse, helping others at Deaconess Hospital. He achieved his dream of being on the Air Evac team and continued his service as its director until his death. Kirby is survived by his parents, Ed and Margaret; his sister, Vicky Lynn Isabel of Mount Vernon; nephews, Sean Isabel and Chris Russell, great nephew, Robert Isabel. He also leaves behind his partner, David Rose and his goddaughter, Devon Allyn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Wayne Russell in 1974. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday October 21, 2015 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 East Fourth Street, Mount Vernon. Memorials are suggested to Not A Gonna Wheeze (a children’s asthma camp) in care of the funeral home.
Marion Warpenburg Dr. Marion E. Warpenburg, 91, passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 at Deaconess VNA Hospice in Evansville. He was the only son of William Harold and Lena (Oller) Warpenburg born Dec. 3, 1923 in Wabash Township Gib C t Indiana. I di Gibson County, He attended Upper Hills school his first year. His father was a farmer working for the Cooper Land Company, he passed away in April 1930. Marion and his mother moved to Poseyville, Indiana to be close to family. Marion graduated from Poseyville High School in 1941. He worked in the oil fields as a roughneck on a drilling rig until joining the U. S. Marine Corps in Feb. 1943. Marion served in the U. S. and the Pacific. He was aboard a ship going to Japan for an invasion on D-Day. His division continued to Japan landing at Sasebo on Sept. 22, 1945 as occupation forces on the southern Island of Kyusher not too far from Nagasaki. Marion returned to the U. S. on May 10, 1945. He returned to the oil field after a short time, getting back to civilian life. He enrolled at Evansville College and on Aug. 18, 1945 he and Carolyn J. Manning were married then started college in Sept. Marion graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in June 1954 and opened his family dental practice in Owensville in Aug. 1954 which he continued for 40 years. Dr. Warpenburg was active in Organized Dentistry. He was a life member of American Dental Association, Indiana, Dental Association, and the First District Dental Society which consisted of the twelve southwestern counties. He served as President of the Society, Chairman of the Ethics committee, Delegate to Indiana Dental Convention. He was a member of the American Society of Dentistry for children serving one term of the Board of Directors of the Indiana unit, member of academy of General Dentistry which fostered continuing educations. He served one term on the Board of Indiana University School of Dentistry Alumni Association. After retiring he was presented the First District’s Distinguished Service Award in 2012. Dr. Warpenburg and Carolyn were always very appreciative of all the patients they were permitted to serve and also the several Dental Assistants who worked in their office. Marion was a 25 year member of the Owensville Masonic Lodge 364 and the Owensville Business Men’s Association. Dr. Warpenburg was a life member of the Poseyville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He served as Deacon, Elder, Chairman of the Board and chairman of the Finance committee. He also served as a representative to the state Board of the Christian Church in Indiana, one term as the trustee and certification committee. He was a member of the Oliver Marquis American Legion Post 278 of Poseyville, Indiana. He also worked part-time at Holders Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his father in 1930 his mother in 1965 and his loving wife Carolyn of 65 years in 2011. He is survived by two nieces, Janasu Lutz, Nancy (Fred) Blaylock; great niece and nephews, Lee Aaron (Amanda) Wildt, Heather Rogers, Michael (Camrun) Blaylock; seven great-great nieces and nephews who loved and cared for him. Military Graveside services will be conducted by the retired military veterans at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at the Poseyville Cemetery the Patriot Guard will escort Staff Sergeant Dr. Marion Warpenburg to his final resting place. Rev. Paul DeHart will officiate. Holders Funeral Home in Owensville is handling the arrangements. If you would like to be a part of the funeral procession going to the cemetery be at Holders by 1:30 p.m. The family of Dr. Warpenburg would like to express their thanks to Dr. Jeffery and Jill Nelson for their friendship and many acts of kindness over the years it was truly appreciated. The family would also like to thank the Montgomery Township first responders, Staff of Davita, Deaconess Staff, Deaconess VNA Hospice and all Veterans participating in his services. Edward Schutz Edward A. Schutz, 83, of New Harmony, born October 29, 1931 to Marion L. and Emma Lela ‘Kern’ Schutz, Sr., died October 16, 2015 at Deaconess Hospice in Evansville, Indiana. Ed graduated from N H Hi h New Harmony Highh S School, he was a Korean War veteran and a longtime member of Kiwanis International. He attended Johnson United Methodist Church and the Lighthouse Assembly of God church. He was a farmer, working with his brothers and father and later retired from GAF Corporation in Mount Vernon, Indiana. Eddie had a very infectious smile and he never met a stranger. He is survived by two sons, Mark (Susan) Schutz of Vincennes, Indiana and Ron (Kathleen) Schutz of Franklin, Indiana, a step daughter, Natalie Spencer of Tallahassee, Florida, grandchildren, Patrick (Sara) Schutz of Vincennes, Katie (Landon) Wheeler of Morgantown, Indiana, Abby (Matt) Zito of Indianapolis, Savannah and Jazmyne Spencer of Tallahassee and one great grandchild, Ann Marie Schutz of Vincennes, two sisters, Lillian Stevens of Carmel, Indiana and Margie Cobb of Ordway, Colorado, two sisters in law, Jackie Schutz and Frances Schutz both of New Harmony. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Martha and second wife Becky, two brothers, Bill and Marion, Jr., and two sisters, Ruth Wilson and Vera Carey. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Werry Funeral Home in New Harmony with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, officiating will by Rev. Jason Farrar and military honors by American Legion Post 370 of New Harmony. Friends called at Werry Funeral Home, Monday, October 19, 2015, 4 -7 p.m. and again Tuesday 9 a.m. until service time. Vivian Janett (Davidson) Craig, 82, of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. She was born April 22, 1933 in St. Louis, Ok., to Riley and Ada (Williams) D id Davidson. Vivian graduated from Carmi Township High School, Class of 1951. She was a member of the West Side Church of Christ and Two Rivers Camping Club. Vivian enjoyed working in her yard. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard ‘Bob’ Robert Craig; brother, Ray Davidson; sisters, Mabel Louise Davidson and Velma Ackerman. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Winstead and husband, Tony of Evansville, Ind., and Barb Topper and husband, Bob of Mount Vernon, Ind.; three grandchildren, Cory Topper and wife, Valerie, Craig Topper, Scott Winstead and wife, Charlene; two greatgrandchildren, Cameron and Skyler Winstead; nieces and a nephew. Funeral service were held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main Street, Mount Vernon, Ind., with Bro. Lelia Rose Lelia ‘Madeline’ Rose, 91, passed away Monday October 12, 2015 at Transcendent Healthcare of Owensville. She was born in Gibson County on June 15, 1924 the daughter of Thomas Franklin and Amanda (Mobley) Rose. Madeline was a homemaker and a member of the Apostolic Bible Church in Stewartsville. Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis (Bob) Whittler; two grandchildren, Marvin (Bonnie) Whittler and Shirley Lynn Walther; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings. Graveside services were held on Thursday October 15, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Poseyville cemetery with Pastor Greg Morrison officiating.
