WELCOME From Friday 20 to Sunday 29 June, Portsmouth plays host to one of the most vibrant summer festivals on the south coast. Now in its 15th year, Portsmouth Festivities is bigger and better than ever, with a fantastic mix of concerts, dance, exhibitions, films, plays and outdoor events across the city. This year’s programme of over 80 dazzling and diverse events features internationally acclaimed artists and stunning local talent. We are proud to present a number of new commissions, which we hope will ensure our ongoing artistic development and bring you something you can’t find elsewhere. Whatever your age or interests, whether you are new to the Festivities or a staunch supporter, we hope you will find something to enjoy. For example - Music lovers will relish events including The Tallis Scholars, one of the world’s greatest pianists, and artists from the Young Classical Artist Trust, while Talks feature speakers as diverse as Carol Ann Duffy, Lucy Hawking and Antony Beevor. We are increasingly grateful to all our sponsors, partners, performers and volunteers and, especially this year, to our new Creative Partners who have provided invaluable support.

FACES will ask people to look differently in all sorts of ways. For those of you who help us with research or perform in the film, FACES is an opportunity to explore aspects of Portsmouth you may never have considered: What was it really like to live in this historic naval city a century ago, during the build-up to the Great War? Because FACES is created entirely from true stories, audiences too will discover all kinds of fascinating moments from history. We hope to bring the past to life vividly; unexpectedly.

We aim to create a visual and audio spectacle that sparks relevant and surprising conversations - about what contemporary art can be, about how art can connect with communities, and about what happens when past and present collide. We hope you will come and experience it. By Kye Wilson and Helena Eflerová (WE), April 2014 Find out more about FACES on Page 10.

(unless otherwise stated)

We also want to question ideas about film, writing and performance. The protagonists in FACES are not played by movie stars - instead, these are your friends and neighbours. It could be you up there, just as the words spoken could have been yours, had you been born 100 years out of time.

Box Office 023 9282 8282

As artists, we want to challenge perceptions and inspire new perspectives. Portsmouth is our home, and after years of making work in other parts of the world, we are thrilled to have the chance to take a fresh look at the city.
