Thank you

FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT THIS SEASON!

Pontypridd Town AFC welcome the Management, Players and especially their ‘Black and White Army’ supporters to the USW Sport Park today. We hope the weather will be kind to us today as of late we have had every thrown at us. We always enjoy our games against Ammanford as they are usually very entertaining especially when a certain Mr Trundle is available . I noticed on a lot of TV games last weekend when the referees seemed to let the game carry on after appeals for fouls by players when they usually stop the game. On one of the Premier games last Sunday a player went down after a light collision and then decided to roll over four times and then another late one. This sort of acting must stop as it is spoiling games and you never see that in rugby. I am so glad you don’t see that sort of acting at our level of football very often but will it ? Finally I have just finished these notes after seeing the World’s greatest striker Gavin, sorry Christian Ronaldo once again score goals with amazing skills for Manchester United. I hope you all get home safely and maybe see you over the road with the players at the Pottery. Thanks for your support today.

Pontypridd Town 4-0 Llantwit Major: Ponty run riot against league leaders - Clwb Pel Droed Llantwit Major fell to their first league defeat of the season at the hands of Cymru South title rivals Pontypridd Town. Lee Baldock and Sam Johnson gave Ponty the lead in the first half, before the victory was secured by Gavin Beddard and Luke Gullick. Both sides ended the game with ten men after Kris Evans and James Bloom were sent off. Both sides enjoyed good spells of possession, but Ponty were far more clinical in front of goal. The game started in a frantic fashion, with both sides getting good chances. Tom Walters tried to add to his 13 league goals in the first minute, but his free-kick was deflected wide by the wall. Ponty then went down the other end and had a golden opportunity to take the lead, but Beddard headed wide from point blank range. Ten minutes later, the home side took the lead. Sam Johnson dispossessed Llantwit’s Sean Williams in midfield and broke free, only to be brought down just outside the box by Goldsworthy. Left-back Lee Baldock fired the free-kick into the bottom left corner with a brilliant strike. Fifteen minutes later, things went from bad to worse for Llantwit. Kris Evans recklessly dived in to try dispossessing Gullick, but the tackle was badly mistimed, leaving Thomas Bevan no choice but to send him off. Llantwit tried to make up for the loss of a defender by bringing centre-back Jamie Miller on for winger Rob Jones, but this tactical move didn’t seem to work out, as shortly after Ponty made the man advantage count with the scrappiest goal of the afternoon. The ball was played in from a long throw, and Sam Johnson was there to head home from close range. Josh Jones came closest to scoring for Llantwit in the first half, when his powerful half-volley inside the box was inches wide of the target. It took just five minutes of the second half for Ponty to add to their tally. Gavin Beddard rose higher than any defender to meet Aiden Lewis’ corner, and head it in and all but secure the victory for Pontypridd. But the home side weren’t done yet, and with half an hour left, Luke Gullick scored his 12th league goal of the season. Gullick showed great pace on the wing, before firing a shot past Lansdown from a tight angle. With fifteen minutes left, Pontypridd were reduced to ten men, after captain James Bloom was shown a second yellow for a foul. Llantwit found some momentum from this, but failed to make it count. Cullen Kinsella hit the uprights twice with headers – the first hitting the post and the second bouncing off the crossbar. Substitute Lee Jones saw his shot deflected over the bar, and a header from Josh Jones caused no problems for Morgan Davies in the Ponty goal. The final chance of the game came to the home side. Substitute Craig Reddy did well to keep possession whilst isolated in the opponent’s half, before cutting inside and firing at goal, but the effort was just wide of the mark. Llantwit Major have kept their spot at the top of the Cymru South table despite the loss, although the gap between them and second-placed Pontypridd is now just a single point, whilst Goytre United are also hot on their heels.

An update from our Womens Team CATCH UP WITH PLAYER COACH ROBYN PINDER We’ve made some really exciting signings and it’s only a matter of time before we start to gel and really click into gear. We caught up with our latest signing and new number 12, Robyn Pinder. Robs, welcome to the club, it’s great to have you onboard as both a player and coach. What attracted you to the club and how have you found it since joining? Thank you. A number of things really but the two most influential factors were the quality of the squad and the opportunity to play for, and work alongside, Fern. Fern is one of many amazing people working behind the scenes to develop this club and women’s football in South Wales. I also recently started working for USW so it’s nice to be able to walk down from the office and onto the pitch. You’ve now got a few games under your belt, how do you feel you have settled in? I’ve really enjoyed everything so far. The players and staff have been so welcoming. In terms of my performances, I had quite a long spell out so I’ve got a way to go to get where I want to be but I’m confident with game time and the intense training sessions it won’t take me too long. Looking ahead to the game on Sunday against TNS, they are a very different side to the side we played in the first game if the season, what threats do you think they will pose this time round? Yes from what I gather they’ve made some really good signings so we’re expecting a very different, but equally tough, game. I don’t know too much about them but I assume they’ll be quite direct, physical and look to use their pace. We have also made a number of good signings since the first game of the season, including yourself, how do you foresee us being able to breakdown this change TNS side? We’ve made some really exciting signings and have been putting a lot of time and effort into developing partnership and relationships between players - especially in the attacking third. It’s only a matter of time before we start to gel and really click into gear. To break them down we’ll need to be at our best and the girls know that. Spirits are high and training has been really good so I’m confident that will carry through to the game!
