DRESS CODE DILEMMAS, SOLVED!

Photo © James Stafford Photography

How to decide what to wear at any event - even a day at the races By Elaine Simmons

Turning up inappropriately dressed for any event can be embarrassing and will instantly put you at a visual and emotional disadvantage. Most occasions have an expected code of dress; some are written while others are implied. Dressing according to the expected dress code will help you to avoid standing out like a sore thumb. In addition, following a dress code is a form of etiquette that shows respect and allows everyone to feel at ease with each other. When there is a stated dress code, it can be easily researched, but working out what to wear to an occasion where the dress code has not been stated requires a little detective work and consideration. No matter what the dress code, it should be applied without losing sight of your own personal style. Whether you are attending a wedding, dinner party, business conference, gala event, or

even a Race Day event,

choosing the right look for each is important in order to present yourself well, so that others will feel comfortable around you. Next time you’re faced with the ‘What do I wear to that’ dilemma, ask yourself the following: Who’s going? Consider everyone in your group that will be attending. What is their economic background? What is their profession? What is their age group and gender, and what relationship (if any) do they have to each other? Will there be anyone there whom you already know? If you will be trying to impress people, are they likely to be associates, neutral onlookers, or will they be competitors? And if you dress or act in a particular way, are they likely to become annoyed or amused? The more you know about the group, the better equipped you will be to dress and act in the right manner.

© rangizzz - Fotolia.com.

Why am I going and what outcome do I want? Is there anyone you need to meet? Will the encounter be used toward building a business relationship or personal one? Do you want to impress those present with your social savvy, knowledge, personality or position, or are you going just to be seen as having attended? The reason behind the intended meeting/gathering and the reason why you are attending will together dictate the type and way in which you will select the clothes for the occasion.

How will I reach my goal? Your clothes send silent messages to everyone you meet all the time. Therefore, if you are there to market yourself you will need to determine who you want to influence and dress in a way that will make the right impression. Would you have to be dressed trendily or in high quality clothes and accessories? It’s helpful to dress similar to those with whom you are trying to bond with or meet. Doing so will remove one possible barrier of “difference”, and can visually create that bond. For every situation, there is only one word that can be used to sum up everything you do and wear, and that word is “Appropriate”. Dress and present yourself appropriately and doors will open to you, and opportunities will be made available to you. When you dress inappropriately, you run the risk of being avoided, snubbed, or even ignored entirely. Should I ask advice on what level of dress may be expected? When in doubt, consult with the person that invited you to the event. If you are still confused about what to wear, contact other attendees and ask them what they are wearing and match your manner of dressing against theirs. Fun, facts, and musings from your local tailor

You prepared that resume, you made it through three rounds of interviews and you’ve worked your tail off to climb that corporate ladder – you’ve got this licked. Or do you?! Much like being called up from the minors to the big show – that day you are called in and told you are going on the overnight business trip to attend the client meeting is heady stuff. Making a good impression is tantamount. Wrinkles do not a good impression make. How to pack your carefully chosen attire? Pack hack #1: Pull out that overnight bag that fits the parameters of carry-on. Never check your bags. Ever. Never, ever. First and foremost – you do not want to run the risk of lost luggage. Second – you don’t have time to wait in line for your bag to roll around the carousel.

You, without your bag

Pack hack #2: Roll ‘em up. Military style packing – where you roll instead of fold – does double duty – it eliminates creases and it saves space.

You, ready to rock the interview! © DragonImages- Fotolia.com

Pack hack #3: Resist the urge. Do not over-pack. You only need two suits – tops. Wear one on the plane over a t-shirt and sport some comfortable walking shoes for travel. When you pack your second suit, turn the jacket inside out and roll it around your more cushy items – this will cut out the crumpling. As for your dress shirts, fold and then roll. Pack hack #4: Channel Johnny...Cash that is – the man in black. Dark suits are your friend – it makes matching easier and should you spill a little coffee...so much less obvious than on a suit of a lighter hue. Pack hack #5: Embrace the free. Make your dopp kit lighter by remembering the hotel will have shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion. Save room in your bag for those unique toiletries you cannot personally live without when you travel.

© gstockstudio- Fotolia.com

Pack hack #6: Back that thing up. Always have back-up. This will not take up room in your bag...just space on your phone. Have quality scans of your important documents – driver’s license, etc. – because although you may have carried on that bag...you never know.

So – suit up. Pack it up and go get ‘em. You’ve earned it...and now you can feel confident about traveling wrinkle-free. Q. WHY DO DOGS CHASE CARS? © Gstudio Group - Fotolia.com

A.

DOGS CHASE EVERYTHING

People. Balls. Sticks. Cats. They chase their own TAILS Experts believe that this "chasing" is related to herding (in breeds so predisposed), and general predator behavior in all dogs. This is, of course, dangerous. The answer? It should come as no surprise. Training, training, training. You're welcome. 10 Pompano Today March 2015

MARITAL MINUTES

I

Running My Own Race

was looking at everyone around me and all I saw was “experience”, preparation, and expensive brand-name running sneakers. I heard a cannon blast and everyone began running. Miraculously I was running with them. I am not a runner. I never run. Even if I consider myself physically fit, running has not been my exercise of choice. It could be because I remember how uncomfortable I was in PE when we had to run the mile. I could never run and came in last place. I essentially walked the whole distance. It was pretty embarrassing.

By Dr. Gina Stafford

chest cold that day as well, but I was determined to run cold or no cold. During the entire run I thought about PE the whole time (where I grew up you took PE every day from grade 6-12). I just could not get it out of my head. I found this very interesting because I never think about PE. My thoughts of PE motivated me. I had no expectation of winning any metals in the race, but I just did not want to come in last place.

Now I am running. Wow, growing up I never would have thought that I would participate in a 5K. This was my first race. I was just doing this blindly. I did not think about the race too much before that day, and definitely did not prepare. Even before the race everyone was stretching and preparing and I was just looking around and listening to music.

I had many pass me, both older and younger. This discouraged me because a bit, but I knew that these people probably practice and have endurance and I essentially have none. Close to the end of the race I did gain the strength and motivation to run a bit more and I did pass a few people as well. As I approached the finish line I made sure I was running. As much as it hurt I did not want to cross the finish walking. It felt so good when I passed the line. All I could think was: “I was done” and “I was not last”. My finishing time was 40:37.7. I finished 108 out of 135.

When the race started I started strong, but inevitably I had to walk quite a bit because I was having a hard time breathing. It did not help that I had a mild

And I finished 8 out of 10 in my age group. I did it!!!! I did something that I never thought that I would or could do!!!!

career advice for the car enthusiast

By Michael DiPierro As graduation approaches, the question of “what to do next?” is on the mind of many seniors. For some it is college or the military, and for others it is job hunting; but in line with the theme of “fast cars”, this article sheds light on some possible next steps for the graduating car enthusiast. There are many career options in the automotive world, ranging from mechanic to automobile engineer to automotive journalist and many others in between. According to the 2012 Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median yearly salary for automotive service technicians and mechanics was $36,610 with a positive outlook for future jobs. For high school graduates, Atlantic Technical College provides industryleading training in its Advanced Automotive Service Technology program. Offered only on a full-time basis, students can complete the program in two years and work as an intern in a Toyota or Lexus dealership. In addition to Atlantic Technical College, Broward College offers an Automotive Technology Program where students can earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Auto Technology. According to the Broward College webpage, master technicians can earn as much as $70,000 to $100,000 per year. Broward College also offers internships for their automotive program students. In Broward County, similar automotive educational opportunities can be found at McFatter Technical College and Sheridan Technical College.

For those high school graduates wanting to pursue a career as an automobile engineer, a common first step is to earn a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with specialized course work in automotive engineering. Graduates with a degree in mechanical engineering may decide to pursue an automotive career as an industrial engineer designing parts, an electrical engineer designing electronic systems, or a computer engineer developing software systems. Median salaries for these career paths range from $75,000 to over $100,000 per year.

With a little research and some vision, there is no shortage of opportunities In researching how to become an automotive journalist, it became apparent that there is no single formula for achieving this goal; however, aspiring automotive journalists must know the automotive industry inside and out, and it helps to network with those already established in the field. In terms of education needed, the best answer I found was “it depends”. It is possible that a brilliant writer with no college degree, but a gift for words, may get noticed and hired through his or her blog. Conversely, some companies may require a college degree no matter how gifted the person is. With a little research and some vision, there is no shortage of opportunities for the new high school graduate with a love of the automotive world.

NEED FOR SPEED

Start your engines! And the ten fastest cars in the world are. . .

Have you heard of the saying: “I feel the need: the need for speed”? Or “We are making great time”?

What is it that gives us that high when we drive fast or when we beat the traffic? Why are we always trying to defeat the space-time continuum by challenging ourselves in planning a trip that takes 9 hours from FL to NC and try to make it in six hours?

By Jay Ghanem

Here are the top 10 fastest cars in the world: 1. Hennessey Venom GT: 270 mph (435 km/h), 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, has a 7.0 liter LS7 Turbocharged V8 engine producing 1244 hp, with a price tag of $1,000,000 and up (see photo, p.4; below and on our cover, a happy Steven Tyler in his new ride. Photos courtesy Hennessey Performance).

By sharing with our friends that we drove 85-90 mph and didn’t get a ticket is such a victory and everyone is amazed by our marathon drive. This is more like an endurance test. We don’t stop and take a break unless it is for gas, food or restroom breaks. Are we trying to prove something to ourselves and/or others? As humans, we love fast cars. We have a fascination with sports cars, expensive cars, cars that shift from 0-60 in seconds. Driving a fast car is like having a drug or an aphrodisiac that you can flash to your friends, when you pull up to a restaurant or when you are trying to attract someone you are interested in. There is something that pulls us all to focus when we see a fast cars driving up. There is something hard wired into our brain to react to adrenaline. It is that rush that we get when we see one… imaging if we are the ones driving it, owning it and gloating about the timing we made and the speed we achieved in few minutes. Over the past 100 years, fast cars have come a long way. Between the speed, the design, the lines and curves on the cars, they have become a status symbol, a sign of youth and vitality, and a power, beauty & sex symbol. The rich and famous compete to get the latest model car, the fastest car and the rarest of them all… Thrill seeking has become the “in thing” these days… that is why many car companies, sell you the car, teach you how to use it at special racing venues and many of these cars have their exclusive club memberships.

(EVEN MORE)

Thrill seeking is very powerful and sometimes addictive… This has pushed humans towards new heights in creativity, in speed and in attempting what we thought- the impossible years ago… We now have a driverless cars that will be licensed and on the US roads as early as 2017. For now it is not fast so it may not become as popular as these fast cars mentioned above. It is hard for me to finish this article without mentioning the twin electric motors, four door Tesla SP85D that set the world record for quickest and fastest production-electric, where the new challenger Hellcat went up in smoke while drag racing against the Tesla. I hope you enjoyed my most favorite cars. If you have any car issues, questions, or would like to see some fast, beautiful and even sexy cars, feel free to contact us or visit our facility in beautiful Pompano Beach.

WHO LOVES US, BABY?

Pompano Today is excited to introduce the winner of our Love 2014 contest, where you, our readers, voted for the most philanthropic business in our community. The votes have been tabulated and, drumroll please…

Our winner is Liberty Tax Service!

Liberty Tax Service is a thriving local enterprise headed by Roger Gingerich and his wife Susan. Roger, who was born in Indianapolis and raised in South Bend, and Susan, who grew up in Hollywood, Florida, moved to Pompano Beach in 1993 after living in Tampa and Jacksonville. Roger owns two Liberty Tax Service franchises located in Pompano Beach, and you can easily identify them by the animated Statue of Liberty characters promoting the businesses this time of year. Giving back to the community is a large part of what drives Roger. Since acquiring his two franchises, Roger and Susan have donated countless hours to a number of local charities that are near and dear to their hearts. The couple are often involved in charity walks, runs, galas and special events for the causes they support.

Roger's selfless dedication and generous support of so many great causes is why Liberty Tax Service of Pompano was chosen as the “Who Loves Us, Baby?” award recipient. The purpose of the “Who Loves Us Baby?" contest was to showcase the local business with the biggest heart. Our goal was to bring special attention to the business and their efforts while helping them play an even greater role in helping the causes they love. Key to this initiative was the assistance of a strategic consulting group in South Florida known as PhilanthroPros. Pompano Today thanks the company for their generous donation of time and talent.

As he has done for the last five years, Roger will once again lead a team of walkers from Liberty Tax to support the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The event will be held on April 18th at Pompano Community Park. Relay for Life Pompano will feature 22 teams from around the area. Roger and Susan have raised significant funds for the American Cancer Society over the years, and this year’s PhilanthroPros helps nonprofit organizations and small event is anticipated to be one of the best. businesses to increase revenue by more effectively engaging with their Communities, Markets and Donors. news from Broward Health North

Colorectal Cancer Gary Lehr, MD, General Surgeon Medical Director BHN Cancer Surgical Services March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month – Make sure to get screened! What is colorectal cancer? Colorectal cancer is cancer of the lower gastrointestinal tract, which includes the colon (large intestine) and the rectum. Although mentioned together as colorectal, and despite their many similarities, they are often treated differently. Thus, there is colon cancer and there is rectal cancer. Who does it affect more, women or men? Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer in both men and women. It falls behind breast cancer and lung cancer in women, and behind prostate cancer and lung cancer in men. Colorectal cancer is slightly more common in men, with approximately 57 percent of all new cancers occurring in men. This male predominance occurs regardless of race or ethnicity. What are some basic symptoms of colorectal cancer? Almost all colorectal cancers arise from polyps, and the majority of them have no symptoms early on. Screening to try and detect these polyps/early cancers before they cause symptoms is extremely important.. As they grow, they produce certain signs and symptoms, including blood in the stool, or in the toilet after having a bowel movement; rectal bleeding; a change in the size or caliber of stools; change in bowel habits, such as constipation or diarrhea that lasts more than a few days; fatigue and dizziness; dark or tarry stools; and the feeling to have a bowel movement when there is no stool present. What test is done to screen for colorectal cancer? The most thorough and complete screening test for colorectal cancer is a full colonoscopy. Other options include a Cat (CT) Scan, colonography, barium enema, and flexible sigmoidoscopy, but these are not as sensitive in detecting polyps/cancers. Checking

stool for occult (not visible) blood is also a valuable screening tool, and should be done on an annual basis. When should you start getting regular screenings? For the majority of the population, those with no risk factors for developing colorectal cancer, the colonoscopy screening should be performed initially at age 50. Digital rectal examination and checking stool for occult blood should be done on an annual basis. For those at increased risk, such as those with a first degree relative diagnosed with colorectal cancer, the first colonoscopy should be done at age 40 or 10 years before the earliest age at which the cancer was diagnosed in the family (whichever is younger). Those with familial adenomatous polyposis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer are at increased risk and should discuss their options with their physician. The frequency of subsequent colonoscopies will depend on the results of your first. What can I do to prevent colorectal cancer? In the majority of cases, colorectal cancer IS preventable. Following the previously mentioned screening guidelines can save many lives, as polyps can be discovered and removed BEFORE they have a chance to become cancerous. Obesity, physical inactivity, tobacco use, the consumption of two to four alcoholic drinks on a daily basis, and diets high in red and processed meats have all been implicated in the increased development of colorectal cancer. Are there any myths or old adages about colorectal cancer that should be cleared up? The most common myth that surgeons encounter is the myth that once "air hits the cancer, it makes it spread." This is not true and should not keep anyone

from having necessary treatment, such as radiation, chemotherapy or surgery. About Gary Lehr, MD: Gary S. Lehr, MD, is a board certified general surgeon. He is immediate past chief of staff at Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach and currently the medical director of Cancer Surgical Services at Broward Health North. Dr. Lehr earned his undergraduate degree and graduated magna cum laude from Union College in Schenectady, New York. He received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine, where he graduated with distinction. He completed his internship and residency in surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he also served as chief surgical resident. Dr. Lehr established his medical practice in Fort Lauderdale in 1993. Since 1996, he has been a practicing partner with East Broward Surgical Associates in Deerfield Beach. Dr. Lehr is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Fort Lauderdale Surgical Society, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Lehr treats patients with a variety of cancers, including breast, thyroid, stomach, skin, colon and rectal cancers.

its second lifeguard. Cecil Miller, a fulltime police officer, served as a parttime lifeguard for one dollar per hour. Several years later (1954-55) the City added a second full-time lifeguard. For the first Pompano Beach Patrol members, the words "Back Up" and "Response Time" took on a whole new meaning. There was no Coast Guard in the area in the early fifties and the Florida Marine Patrol’s presence was rarely ever seen in Pompano. Seeing the need to improve aquatic safety in their small but growing City, the citizens of Pompano Beach contributed enough funds to purchase their first rescue vehicle, which was a 1953 Chevy panel truck. FAST CARS, SUMMER BREAK, MEMORIES OF MY FATHER By Charlotte Sundquist

Cars. Today this word simply reminds me of the standard daily mode of transport. But when I was growing up, it meant something different. It could define your identity. As a teenager, I remember my dad having some very fast cars. I'm talking some very cool fast cars. His favorites were always Corvettes. There were quite a few, and I do remember that a number of them required fiberglass repairs. Let's just say that may have had something to do with the speeds at which he drove them. And there was also that 1934 Ford in the garage. Not fast, not a Corvette, but definitely cool.

When I was a freshman in high school, my dad broke away from Corvettes for a time and bought a 1970 Mach 1 Mustang, with a 351 Cleveland engine. Why do I remember those details? I have no idea. I think it was because I would hear all that garage talk with guys at car shows. My mom tells me that I have a horrible memory, but somehow this information continues to remain tucked away in my brain. I've heard men refer to expensive cars as "chick magnets". My dad's Mustang was a high school boy magnet. And being a fourteen year old girl, that was okay with me. Having dad drop me off at the front door of the school was always a lot of fun, and would mean that some cute football player was guaranteed to walk over and talk with him. I loved that car. A few years later, my dad made the decision to move out to Arizona. I don't recall how long he was there, but what stands out was that over one

of my summer breaks, my dad called and told me he was coming back to Massachusetts. He had bought a car and he was planning to drive back across the country. He didn't tell me what it was; I would have to wait to see it when I got there. Mom put me on a plane, and off I went. Apparently, dad had gone back to his old love, the Corvette. This one topped the list of my favorites. He picked me up in a 1966 Sunfire Yellow Convertible, with side pipes, and a Big Block 427 engine. I didn't know it then, but only 2,400 of this model in this color were manufactured that year. Ahhh, this is one of those moments where I say "If only he had kept that car".

I used to sit backwards in that car, with my bare feet propped up on the seat That was the best summer, one that I will not soon forget. Now I'm going to admit something that may get me in trouble with the safety police of our generation. I used to sit backwards in that car, with my bare feet propped up on the seat. I didn't care where I was going, it didn't matter. And when I jumped out the door, I would swing my legs out, getting the back of my calves burned by those side exhaust pipes every time. Yes, these are fond memories; I may even still have a scar. During that month, we drove too fast along highways, raced a Ferrari through Texas, and

respectively waved to each passing driver that gave us the thumbs up. It was also a time to visit family that had branched out from New England. I look back now, and reminisce about backyard barbecues and pool parties. But most importantly, it was a short moment in time that I spent with my dad, and only my dad. I didn't realize it then, but I wouldn't have the opportunity to make a lot of memories with him later in life. Oddly enough, the more I reflect, that car was the center of a lot of special moments. We were carefree, and didn't give a hoot about sunblock or seat belts. We just put the top down, revved up the engine, and turned up the radio up really loud. It was the simple pleasures of the wind messing up my hair and being able to sing out of tune at the top of my lungs.

Those vehicles allow us to reminisce about simpler days Is a car more than just a form of transportation? In this case I would have to say yes. Muscle cars, fast cars, classic cars….they aren't your average Honda mini-van. To those of us that lived through the experience of those years, these vehicles now are a source of nostalgia, allowing us to reminisce about simpler days. And for that, I'd like to thank my dad for being passionate about those big block engines. You will forever live in my heart and memory, every time a Corvette rumbles by. POLICE CAR

Pompano did not have an official city-owned police car until after World War II. Seen here, Pompano Mayor Bo Giddens accepts the automobile in front of City Hall, which at that time occupied offices in the Masonic Building, located just east of today's City Hall. Soon after acquiring the new police car, a change was needed “Renaissance festivals inspired me as a child to pursue an interest in history and -- the city's name changed to to work with my hands and be creative. It still inspires me, even today.” Pompano Beach in 1947.

“ Many times it’s the patrons themselves that inspire me to try new ideas. They really push me to be more creative and keep the work interesting every year.”

GO FOR THE

W

GREEN

e should all be settled into the flow of 2015 by now. At this point you’ve either abandoned your resolutions, you’re still trying to hang on to them or you’re managing them like a pro. It doesn’t really matter which bucket you fall into. What matters is that you are being productive (going for the green aka The Almighty Dollar) and having fun at the same time. Here’s a secret - I didn’t event commit to any resolutions for 2015 (that actually was the resolution – so I guess I’m sticking to it).

The Simple Equation

Can Going For The Green Be Fun? I know this is a tricky question. It’s a simple yes! Yes, it can be fun. Whether you’re a solopreneur, entrepreneur or employee, “going for the green” while being productive can be fun. This is where goal setting is crucial and makes a HUGE impact on your productivity as a person. I like to play games or run competitions to make it exciting. For example, each month I set a goal for the number of times (per client) that I’d like to see a client’s name in the media (TV, radio, print, etc.). Each month I write the goals out per client and post them where I can see them each day. Sometimes, I set the stakes high at six. Other times, it may

Does Productivity Get You The Green? This is a VERY important question for you understand and have the answer to. The official (Wikipedia) definition of productivity is an average measure of the efficiency of production. It can be expressed as the ratio of output to inputs used in the production process, i.e. output per unit of input. Sounds so textbook, right? Well, it is. But it’s a simple equation - how do you measure your output (products, services, sales, etc.) and input (the return on investment, aka The Almighty Dollar)? Are you tracking sales meetings and follow up calls to see if you are getting a return on your investment (time spent selling, pitching, following up and closing deals)? Or do you consider crossing tasks (that don’t generate income) off of a list being productive? The goal to productivity (in my opinion) is not the amount of output; it’s the quality of the output (obviously if we’re talking widgets that sell for $1, this does not apply). Is it better to send 20 follow up emails or to sit down with five strong leads and close those deals in person? Think about it. For 2015 I want you to really define what productivity looks like in your professional environment. Once you’ve determined what that looks like, you will be able to make a clear indication of tasks that will generate revenue versus tasks that don’t, but give the appearance of productivity, OR “being busy.”

be three. If I reach 50% of my goal, I treat myself to something special. If I exceed my goal, well, let’s just say there have been quite a few spa days in the past. Reaching your goals can be fun if it’s fair and there’s an incentive at the end. Think about how you can implement games for yourself or with your team to increase productivity and revenue while having fun. You don’t have to splurge on spa days but a gas card, coffee card or free lunch will do the trick. Trust me!

NEWS FROM THE WEST COAST

stars in your eyes By Misty Schwartz

Kim Kreiss: Doing what comes naturally

Kim Kreiss is an entertainment industry producer, environmental activist and philanthropist. Some of her events and benefits include but aren't limited to: Entertainment Tonight, Alive Expo Green Pavilion, “90210 – Spelling Entertainment, “MELROSE PLACE – Spelling Entertainment, “Twilight Zone HBO, “HIGH RISK – CBS, “A SUMMER TO REMEMBER" - ABC, “THE RYAN WHITE STORY – The Landsburg Company, “QUARTERBACK PRINCESS - CBS, Warner Bros. Records, Prince, Kid Rock, Bob Seger, Rolling Stones, Jay-Z, Eminem, Linkin Park, U2, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, and Madonna, among others.

When did you know without any doubt that you wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry? My mother was a Miss France runner-up - she always had an interest in mixed media, painting and the visual arts. I was exposed at an early age to the performing arts through her. As a young adult in Los Angeles I was able to build a career in the business end in Hollywood via casting & talent management and executive producing live events. What inspires you to produce celebrity and charity events? I am inspired by the idea and hope that my abilities can help artists achieve their career goals. I have always had a passion for conservation. I was raised in the Pacific Northwest, and being very close to nature created a "green" consciousness. It seemed a perfect fit to become coFounder of Project Green - a charity which protects greenspace for future generations by building eco-summer camps for underserved kids. Can we expect a book from you? Yes I am working on a celebrity photo journal which proceeds will be donated to Project Green. What is the best way for your fans to know what you’re working on? Facebook/Twitter? Do you post for your own sites or do you have your assistants do the posts?

Brenda Sellars, Shari Sawran, Gloria Tomey, Theresa McIntosh and Donna Barahona understand the value of making the “right” retirement decision a family affair.

Retirement Living Is A Family Affair

If you are a senior who wants to relieve the burden of care from your children, OR if you have senior parents and are concerned about what the future holds for their long-term independence – now is the time to have a family conversation to formulate a plan. When senior parents have the conversation about the future with their adult children, they can work together to help guarantee the elders’ welfare and care no matter what may happen in the future. Gloria Tomey did not ever want to be a burden for her four daughters. Gloria says that “At John Knox Village I have everything I need.” Daughter Brenda says, “The Village allows mom to be unique. It gives us peace of mind that she will live a healthier life here.”
