Iconic architecture is the topic of this diploma thesis. A truly iconic architecture, the “haute couture architecture�, is generated under two conditions: from a design that is groundbreaking and a location that is sufficiently attractive to support the new building. The Pyramid of Tirana allows the idea of adding new values to the existing object. The proposal is to create a new object by not intervening in the existing building but by helping to re-contextualize it as a con| 168
temporary iconic architectural complex in Tirana. The intervention also concerns the square around the building in the form of controlling mobility and allowing accessibility for visitors and people who will frequent it as a recreational space. The new complex will be re-formed in terms of its construction and also its functionality, thus addressing the long discussed issue of the revitalization of the Pyramid, not only as a monumental building but as a key element and a vital public space for the city.
