This research thesis investigates sustainable development strategies that can improve the quality of life in the outskirts of Tirana, marking a new commitment towards turning neglected areas into new cultural parks. Biodiversity conservation could not be included in the resource-management decisions only in one direction, as it is a vital element in keeping natural processes alive. Therefore, the management of natural systems includes | 330
many tradeoffs between preserving biodiversity and other purposes. Knowledge on biodiversity is very valuable in promoting technological innovation, in exploring human biology and ecology experiences, all ways of transforming this biodiversity knowledge into valuable beliefs. Tirana, being the capital of Albania, has developed in a very short period, neglecting ecosystems. The city has different parks, but none of them has a diversi-
ty of functions. Therefore, the project idea was to transform the existing Paskuqan Park using the topology infrastructure, nature, and technology in a multifunctional research centre with different activities like: a Farming Park, a Regional Garden, an Arboretum, a Flower Garden, an Event’s Open Area, a Sports Park, an area for Horse Riding, an Energy Forest, a Museum Research Center and a Water Purification
Bridge. This project significantly influenced the development of the quality of life in the outskirts of Tirana. Furthermore, the creation of a Museum Research Center as the biggest building in the park area is thought as the main attraction point creating a link between the park and the surrounding city. The final project is a technologically innovative complex in symbiosis with nature.
