[CON]TEMPORARY HOUSING
MODULAR AND FLEXIBLE CONCEPT FOR HOUSING IN TIRANA Student: Supervisor:
Briken Miloti Elvan Dajko
This thesis is about the implementation of a [CON]temporary housing concept in Tirana. This concept combined with others like minimalist architecture and modular buildings would be a novelty in our country, as we have not yet implemented any concrete cases yet. The concept of minimalist architecture is used to describe a trend in architecture, where the goal is to use only the necessary elements. The famous architect Miess Van De Rohe used the motto “Less is more” and this project adheres to that motto. The construction site is located along the extension of Tirana’s Northern Boulevard. The project was inspired from similar examples of [CON]temporary housing around the world. Some of the already used elements are the cells with minimal residential area but that fulfill the norms, the different functions which would make the area adaptable to residential, service, or commercial use. The modules can be safely placed on the structure and removed from it, giving to the object various appearances. The first floor is elevated from the ground in order to have more public space and green space. A net will be established on the facade in order to create the right shading depending on the season. During the summer, the net will have plants all over it, which will not | 200
allow the penetration of heat inside the building, while in winter, there will be no plants and the sun will penetrate the cells of the facility. Flexibility in dismantling the entire facility from the construction site, leaving intact the green space and recyclable material that has been used in the object’s construction enables the fulfillment of the pro bio ‘standards’ requirements. The researches on housing through the years show a trend of reducing the dimensions of the required spaces. This proves that people are turning the space strictly into a space in function of themselves. The final product of this research study provides a flexible building which is a new element in Tirana and can help reduce the cases of inevitable errors that may influence generations to come. These past years, the number of visitors, foreign students, and entrepreneurs has been growing. This phenomenon requires an adequate accommodation space and the [CON]temporary housing resolution seems quite a brilliant approach. Our city is located in an urban situation where projects that give more importance to the green element are essential in reducing high pollution.
