GIVING GOES

GLAM Not only has the Dawson County Woman’s Club served the community of Dawsonville since 1979, these ladies also do so in style. Get gussied up and join them on Sept. 20 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church for their annual luncheon and fashion show, “Giving Goes Glam.” Expect fresh collections for the season from the best of Gainesville’s boutiques including Carol’s Closet, Elizabeth’s Clothing Company, Saul’s and The Bradford Pair. Proceeds from this event go to the community through the 50 various service projects these ladies have up their sleeves. Tickets are $30 and include lunch, the show and your chance to win fun door prizes or bid on items in the silent auction. After all, doing good never goes out of style. dawsoncountywomansclub.org

MILLER LITE

CHILI & BBQ COOK-OFF

It’s baaaack. Last year’s move from Stone Mountain to the Georgia International Horse Park at Conyers was a success so the 35th annual Great Miller Lite Chili & BBQ Cook-off is planning to be even better. This year's Oct. 4 BBQ competition is KCBS sanctioned, which means the BBQ will be the real deal. Live entertainment all day Saturday with a kids zone, plenty of food and beverage vendors as well as sponsor booths. Come out to sample chili from nearly 150 booths. Gates open at 10 a.m. and the sampling starts shortly thereafter. Cost is $10 for adults; children under 10 are free. All of the proceeds benefit Camp Twin Lakes. theatlantachilicookoff.com
