2012 RESOLUTION Points North asks the dentists at Atlanta Dental Spa, located in both Buckhead and Roswell, for their New Year’s resolution to help our readers live healthier in 2012.

I’m tired of just hearing “floss more.” I resolve to find a dentist who can treat my mouth and improve my overall health. Good news for folks who can’t floss! And, while we don’t want you to stop flossing, there are much bigger resolutions you should make for your mouth and overall health. Research proves it — we can look into your mouth and predict your overall health. A recent article in Science shows pancreatic cancer patients have a unique oral bacterial make-up. And there is a pile of scientific evidence proving unhealthy gums will lead to cardiovascular disease. This year, getting your mouth healthy may be the most important thing you do to ensure a long and healthy life. And it’s now easier than ever to do. Atlanta Dental Spa has evolved beyond the dark ages of scary dental visits. We have spa-like environments with noise-canceling headphones, TVs, quiet drills, shots you can’t feel, and even a tiny sedation pill for people who have anxiety about dental treatment. Furthermore, leading-edge technology allows for gentle, conservative treatment — like trays you can wear to treat periodontal (gum) disease (instead of deep scraping/scaling or surgery), a mouth rinse that reverses cavities (instead of drilling/fillings), a saliva test for HPV, and a unique scanner that measures antioxidant levels in your body. Treatment has vastly improved. Visits are now pampering and enjoyable. It’s time to get your mouth healthy. It may actually save your life.

I resolve to improve my year by improving my smile. DR. PETER BOULDEN & DR. SUSAN ESTEP

Improving your smile may be the most powerful investment you can make in your appearance to positively impact the personal, social and professional aspects of your life. Every day our team of dentists has the privilege of improving our patients’ lives through their smiles. We understand how frustrating, even depressing it can be to not like showing your smile. Once you improve your smile, the improvements spread to other areas of your life. You smile more and appear more friendly, more confident, and more able to get the job done. No wonder our patients return to us with stories of wedding engagements, job promotions, and happier times. Their only regret is not doing it sooner. You might be looking at the economy thinking now is a bad time to invest in your health and beauty. However, if you think about it, there is no better time than now to make these self-improvements — it may mean the difference in a job offer or a successful sale. And when you make the choice to improve your smile, make sure you choose a highly-skilled, highly-trained dentist who has lots of experience improving smiles. Your choice to improve your smile may be the one best thing you can do to ensure a successful, happy new year.
