YOU T H BEDROOM DESIGNER: Home Expressions Interiors by Laura Bloom homeexpressionsinteriors.com LOCATION: Alpharetta BEFORE: This little girl’s room, decked out in pink and white, was outdated and no longer appropriate for its nowpre-teen occupant. THE GOAL: To create a more mature bedroom for the homeowner’s daughter that was still fun and whimsical but sophisticated enough to carry her through her teen years. AFTER: Bloom replaced white case goods with wood-toned ones and layered colors for more depth, starting with an intense shade of aqua on the walls. She also introduced fresh, organic fabrics to make it feel clean and modern. Since the height of the room inhibited a canopy bed, Bloom evoked the same feel with a custom awning style canopy above the top portion of the bed. KEY ELEMENTS: “The structured canopy formed an elaborate focal point that was balanced by more simple and feminine window treatments on either side of the bed,” Bloom said. “These treatments consist of box pleated mini-ruffle valance that mimics the canopy with an under layer of metallic threaded sheers for a youthful and fresh feel … A multicolored shag rug placed on top of existing broadloom not only added a final layer of color but also helped define the space while instilling some youthful, retro-style fun.”

By selecting warm “ wood-tone case goods for most pieces, as opposed to the little-girl whites, [we created] a sense of maturity. LAURA BLOOM
