spot opened up at Jack London. I applied for that position and worked at Jack London for 3 years and now here I am.
Q: If you weren’t a teacher what would you do?

A: I don't know, it's so hard to think since even from a young age I felt like I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I used to love playing teacher with my friends when I was a kid. I think I would want to do something creative. I think it'd be super fun to be an event planner or own my own small business or something where I could still have a creative outlet. When I was younger I also thought about being a marine biologist but then I realized how much science was involved.
Q: What are a few of your favorite things about POCS?
A: I think the expectations that are set for students, I really like that it’s preparing you for the real world and high school. I also love all of the organizational skills that are taught. Like the planners just because I live by my planner I need to have something where I write down my to-do list. Another thing is the community. I love how it's a smaller school and so I feel like I've gotten to know most of the 8th graders' names that aren't even in my class. A lot of the 7th graders that I interact with. That they also offer a multitude of enrichment classes. I really believe that every teacher here has every student's best interest at heart and they really want all of their students to be successful, I don't think you always find that in every school.
Q: Since you are new to teaching at POCS what most stood out to you when you started working here instead of Jack London?
A: I think that when you think of middle schoolers it's such a tough age right? I mean 12,13,14 like you all are just going through so much internally. It was also such a tough age for me. You couldn’t pay me to go back to middle school as a student! So I think coming in I was really surprised by how well all of the students support one another and get along. It's really cool to see the 7th and 8th graders hanging out during recess and lunch and interacting with one another. Even though everyone's not best friends I think people are pretty kind to one another and are supportive of one another. So I think that it was kind of a pleasant surprise for me coming into POCS.
