Bainbridge Island Recreation
More than 1400 acres of parkland is managed by the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District, including one national park – Pritchard Park/Japanese American Exclusion Memorial; two former state parks – Fay Bainbridge and Fort Ward; the Strawberry Hill Recreation Center, a public aquatic center with two pools. The best hiking can be found at Gazzam Lake and in the 240-acre Grand Forest of Bainbridge, containing a 75 year old evergreen forest, wetlands, wildlife habitat and horse and walking trails. Battle Point Park features sports fields, walking/jogging paths,
an astronomical observatory, and the fantastic Kids Up Playground. The island is home to three golf courses, two private and one public. With water all around us, there are plenty of ways to take advantage of it. Kayaks, canoes and electric boats can be rented, as well as SCUBA gear. Public boat launching sites are at Fort Ward and Eagle Harbor Waterfront Park - the latter also has a transient tie-up dock – and local marinas have temporary moorage available as well. A few public road ends around the island also provide access to the shore.
