She spearheaded the formation of Bainbridge Performing Arts, and she also served as managing director for the Bainbridge Choral and, for 17 years, the director of Side by Side, a singing group. As a singer and actor, Rice appeared in many musicals throughout the county. Organzing the tribute are Denise Harris, Marilyn Dearsley, Ginnilyn Hawkins and Peggy Brunton. Dennis South, a longtime director for BPA and founder of CSTOCK in Silverdale, is staging the production. ON STAGE

Bainbridge High actors get ‘Wilde’ Bainbridge High School drama students will present their rendition of the classic comedy “Lady Windermere’s Fan” by the legendary Oscar Wilde, opening at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at the high school. “It’s a Victorian comedy of manners and mores,” said Barbara Hume, language arts and drama teacher at BHS. “It’s a story about reconciliation, a mother trying to reconnect with her long lost daughter, but there’s lots of comic relief.” Much of the humor

he film is currently showing on the festival circuit and its makers are seeking wider distribution. “You don’t finish a film and then let the world beat a path to your door,” Sellers said. “Once you finish, you start doing as much marketing as you can. We’re still looking for funding because we are in the process of distributing the film and getting it out there.” According to the filmmakers, young documentarians who pursue work in the genre often do so with no historical context in mind. “I think that they [young filmmakers] do gravitate

in the play arises from Wilde’s lampooning of Victorian social values of the day, something at which he notoriously excelled. “He’s parodying all of the social mores of the day,” Hume said. “He’s exposed the fact that everyone is flawed. He exposes the truth about our own weaknesses.” Hume said that the intricacies required to properly perform a period piece did not discourage the students. Quite the opposite, in fact. “They’re thoroughly engaged,” she said. “It’s really great because
