The Clean Team
Kudos Yalung finishes basic cadet training at Air Force Academy Air Force Cadet Kevin M. Yalung has completed basic cadet training and earned the rank of cadet fourth class at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. Yalung, a 2012 graduate of Bainbridge High, is the son of Patrick and Catherine Yalung. The cadet completed the rigorous sixweek orientation program. The training prepares cadets to enter their first academic year at the academy. The cadets completed the training in two phases. Phase one consisted of military and physical preparation which focused on the transition from civilian to military life. Phase two involved three weeks of field training on the academy grounds to participate in activities to extend their physical limitations and build self and group confidence. The U.S. Air Force Academy curriculum offers education in the basics, engineering and social sciences, the humanities, and 30 other academic majors. At graduation, the cadet receives a bachelor of science degree and a commission of second lieutenant in the Air Force.

Staff members and participants from the Bainbridge Island Special Needs Foundation, also known as “Stephens House,” pose with Bainbridge Island Firefighters Garrett Kimzey (far left) and Peter Gibson (far right) after they teamed up to wash one of the fire trucks in the parking lot of the Eagle Harbor Congregational Church Wednesday, Sept. 11. “They do so much for our community,” said Stephens House staff member Bryana Deits of the fire department. “And, being 9-11, I thought this was a way for our participants to give back.” Firefighter/Inspector Garrett Kimzey agreed, saying it was a great way for the fire department to stay in involved with the community it serves. “It’s nice to be here,” he said. “They called us, and we’re glad to help. I wish we could do it more often.”
