Motorists in South Kitsap can expect delays during a project to upgrade storm drainage along Colchester Drive, between Puget Drive and Miracle Mile Drive, near Manchester. Temporary road closures are expected July 15 through 18. Traffic will be detoured using Puget Drive. The closures are during daylight hours only, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Periodic one-lane closures are expected for the duration of the project, set to be completed by October. Access to driveways in the work area will be maintained; however, short waits can be expected. This drainage project replaces 3,800 feet of deteriorating storm pipe and installs 21 catch basin structures. Once this work is completed the road will be repaved. The project begins July 8 and is expected to be completed by October. The bid was awarded to Henderson Partners, LLC of Gig Harbor. The total project cost is $583,189 and is funded by Kitsap County Roads Division and the Surface and Stormwater Management. No structural damage to Gorst overpass GORST — No structural damage was found after a state Department of Transportation (DOT) truck towing a trailer with an excavator hit the railroad overpass, according to inspectors. The incident happened about 4 p.m. Friday, June 21, on Highway 3 and a piece of concrete was knocked off the overpass and fell upon a vehicle. The bridge is owned by the U.S. Navy and the rail line, which Puget Sound and Pacific Railroad runs and maintains, was shut down until further inspection on Monday. The rail line was reopened after officials from the Navy’s Public Works Department, DOT and the railroad company inspected the overpass. The driver of the truck was not cited.

Juvenile mentors, board members sought The Kitsap County Juvenile Department needs dedicated volunteers to serve as youth mentors and Community Diversion Board members. Youth mentors work in the offender unit of the Juvenile Department in a one-on-one program that matches promising youth with community members in order to assist in tutoring, setting goals, providing advocacy and positive role models. Diversion Board members meet with juvenile offenders and their parents or guardians to offer alternatives to court proceedings.
