FYI DEATHS

Christian Browne Christian Browne was born the youngest of eight children to Frederick and Jean Browne in Seattle on June 6, 1958. He died on Aug. 19, 2012, from a brain tumor. When Mr. Browne was 4 years old, his family moved to Luana Beach, not far from the Point Robinson Lighthouse. Mr. Browne went through the

Vashon school system and was found to be academically gifted in grade school, but he could not be persuaded to skip a grade, as he wanted to be with his friends. When he was in high school, he eventually dropped out and continued his education at Green River Community College in the building trade, which would be his life’s work. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Greg and his ex-wife Liz Browne. He is survived by his children: Molly Browne and her daughter Talia, Vashon; Cory Hall, San Jose, Calif.; and Raynebeau Hall, Palm Springs, Calif. He was also survived by his siblings Wende, Mac,

Dannie and Debbie Browne, Vashon; Terry Browne, Palm Springs, Calif. and Vicki Browne, Carbondale, Colo., and many nieces and nephews. At Mr. Browne’s request, there will be no funeral service.

Gleb, the daughter of Cheryl Mathews and Todd Gleb, is a junior at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Univeristy in Prescott, Ariz.

Two Islanders have been arrested for burglarizing The Beachcomber’s offices earlier this month, stealing computers and other items, according to Joel Anderson, a King County sheriff’s deputy who handled the case. The suspects were jailed and are awaiting formal charges. A third suspect in the case, another Islander who is already in jail on unrelated burglary charges, will also be charged. Three of the four Apple desktop computers stolen from the newspaper’s offices were recovered at a Vashon residence, Anderson said. The sheriff’s office is working to locate the fourth computer as well as a digi-

tal SLR camera that was also stolen. Anderson, who investigated the case with Dep. Jeff Hancock, said he believed the burglary was drug related. He was unable to say exactly what led police to the suspects, but said concerned Vashon residents gave the sheriff’s office good tips. He called the arrests an example of good community policing. “If the community works with the police department and keeps their eyes and ears open, they can give us reason to go contact people and solve cases like that, he said. —Natalie Johnson

A Vashon resident was transported to Harborview Medical Center after crashing his small, ultralight airplane in a field near the Vashon Municipal Airport Friday evening. The pilot of the small aircraft was alert and conscious when Vashon Island Fire & Rescue responders arrived at around 8 p.m., said Sgt. Cindi West, a spokeswom-

an for the King County Sheriff’s Department. West said the pilot told responders his plane had an engine failure and he was attempting to make an emergency landing in the field when he crashed. He suffered possible back injuries. The plane accident marks the second one this year on Vashon. A plane flipped after an aborted take-off in May.
