OBITUARIES ORIE ANDERSON Lifelong Enumclaw resident Orie Anderson, 101, died May 8, 2012. She was born Oct. 25, 1910, in Enumclaw to James D. and Anna K. (Puttman) Hill. She is survived by son LeRoy Sonneson and wife Lucille and daughter-in-law Karen Randal, all of Buckley; five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Don Randal, granddaughter Beverly Randal, twin sister Aurora Dwyer and sister Winona Martin. Inurnment was at Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw. DORIS ROGERS Enumclaw resident Doris Mae Rogers died May 8, 2012, at the age of 91. She was born May 10, 1920, in Enumclaw to Chris and Helga (Christensen) Nelsen in Doris Rogers Enumclaw. She married William Rogers in 1939 in Enumclaw. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed traveling, flower gardening,

drawing, camping and fishing. She is survived by son Grant and wife Sharon of Black Diamond; daughter Sallie Box and husband David of Enumclaw; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill on July 27, 1979. A graveside service took place Tuesday, May 15, at Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw. NEAL VAN WIERINGEN Neal Van Wieringen died May 6, 2012. He was 32, He was born Nov. 8, 1979. He is remembered as an extreme athlete, a skier who loved to “catch air.” He worked at Recycle Sports in San Francisco where customers appreciated his worth and sense of humor. He is survived by parents Steve and Janet Van Wieringen; sisters Desiree and Danelle; brother Kevin; brothers-in-law Lance and Casey; and numerous relatives in Washington. A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Enumclaw Veterans of Foreign Wars hall. All friends and family are encouraged to attend and share memories.

GLADYS LaFROMBOISE Lifelong Enumclaw resident Gladys V. LaFromboise, 90, died May 9, 2012. She was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Enumclaw to Gunnar and Bertha Kallgren Swanson.

She was a winter visitor to Yuma, Ariz., for 35 years. She was a member of the Seattle Orthopedic Guild and Trinity Lutheran Church who was an avid bridge player and loved to travel. She is survived by son Bruce Lafromboise and wife Cynthia of Yuma; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Pierce Lafromboise in 2001. At her request, no services took place. Burial was beside her late husband at Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw. Donations may be made in her name to a local hospice. VIRA SCHMIDT Buckley resident Vira Schmidt, 99, died May 9, 2012. She was born March 24, 1912, in Pennsylvania. She loved the farm she and husband Fred built from the ground up; she loved the animals and especially her gardens. She was active in local schools and was a grange member for 66 years. She is survived by Vira Schmidt four grandchildren, 10 g re at- g r a nd c h i ld re n and many great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Fred, son Tommy and grandson Ken. Dana Jean Zaputil, 94, died May 9, 2012, in Kent, Wash. She was born March 12, 1918, in Billings, Mont., to Anton and Lu lu Kombol. She loved her family and enjoyed traveling with her sisters. Other interests included cooking, card games and helping children. She was a member of the Dana Zaputil Children’s Orthopedic Guild. She is survived by sisters Nola Fontana of Seattle and Nadine Silvestri and her husband Joe of Kent. She was preceded in death by husband Frank Zaputil and brothers Jack Kombol and Bernell Kombol. A celebration of her life is planned for a later date. Donations may be made in her name to Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation, P.O. What would it be like to travel back in time to the beginning days of radio? Join the Cascade Foothills Chorale as they recreate what Plateau radio might have been like. Cascade Foothills Chorale will perform a radio show beginning at 2:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday at the Chalet Theater in downtown Enumclaw. Anyone can be a part of the studio audience; admission is $10. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any choir member or at the door. The Foothills Chorale will perform songs from the 1930s through the 1960s. Bits of Plateau history will be mixed in with the songs,
