Mussels in the Kettles bike ride

The Whidbey Island Bicycle Club will hold “Mussels in the Kettles,” a non-competitive mountain bike ride through the Kettles Trail system from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. The ride will be held in conjunction with the Penn Cove MusselFest. The ride includes event socks, a free poker run, homemade cookies, a free beer, ice cream for kids and more. Learn more about Right Brain Aerobics The Langley Library will host “Right Brain Aerobics: How Whole Mind Thinking Can Enhance Your World” at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3. New research shows that significant brain enhancing effects can be gained via mental focus exercises and practices, and Right Brain Aerobics was developed specifically for this purpose. Presented by Dr. Craig Weiner, the program will include a lecture, interactive exercises and suggestions for integrating the exercises into daily life. For more information, call 221-4383.

WCT offers drama classes for children

The Whidbey Audubon field trip today is a visit to Deception Pass to look for loons. The group will meet at 10 a.m. at the north end of West Beach parking lot, Deception Pass State Park. The group will bird beach and forest, with the hopes of seeing hundreds of redthroated loons gathering to feed in the outflowing current of Deception Pass. Participants should bring a spotting scope if they have one. Depending on weather and interest, the trip will end at about 1 p.m. Bring water, a snack, or a hot drink. Dress warmly and prepare for wind. Those who want to carpool will meet at 9 a.m. at the new park-and-ride lot behind the dermatology office on the east side of South Main Street in Coupeville, or at 9:30 a.m. at Windjammer Park in Oak Harbor, at the end of South Beeksma near the water. Occupy Whidbey Island presents a free workshop and discussion, “Follow the Money... Corporate Corruption in America,” with Michelle Darnell of Occupy Foreclosures NW at 2 p.m. today at Bayview Community Hall. The event begins with a meet-and-greet followed by a presentation at 3 p.m. A free showing of the movie “Inside Job” begins at 6 p.m.

Whidbey Children’s Theater is now registering students for pre-kindergarten creative dramatics classes, designed and taught by Martha Murphy. WCT offers two different creative dramatics sessions, one on Mondays and the other on Tuesdays. Both sessions are from 1 to 2 p.m. and begin March 5-6 and run through April 9-10. Land trust offers preserve tours Sno-Isle Libraries and the Whidbey Camano Land Trust invite the public to a free tour of five trust land preservation sites as part of Whidbey Reads 2012. Site stewards will host nature tours today at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. at Del Fairfax Preserve, Rhododendron Park, Trillium Community Forest, Saratoga Woods, and Hammons Preserve. Maps are available at all Whidbey Island libraries.

Have tasty fun at MusselFest today The Penn Cove MusselFest returns to Coupeville March 3-4. There will be chowder tasting, mussel eating competitions and activities for all ages.
