A rich history comes to life uring the last part of the 19th century and the first part of the 20th, Railroad Avenue was the center of business. The top photo dates from about 1914, the photo may be dated by the poster advertising the movie being shown. This is Kent's first theater. Berlin Brothers had a general merchandise store on the corner of Meeker and Railroad Avenues. The Kent Historical Museum Hours are Tuesday-Saturday noon to 4 p.m. and also upon request. The museum is located in the historic Bereiter House at 855 E. Smith St., near the heart of Downtown Kent. Parking is available behind the house off East Temperance Street. The Greater Kent Historical Society (GKHS) is a nonprofit organization in the state of Washington that promotes the discovery, preservation and dissemination of knowledge about the history of the greater Kent area.
