Traveling to Mount Si on Friday the Lake Washington boys basketball team picked up a 63-46 win. The Kangs controlled the game throughout, with a 3826 lead at halftime. The Wildcats kept pace with Lake Washington during the third, as both teams scored 11 points, but Lake Washington surged in the fourth with 14 points to Mount Si’s nine. During the win, both Guy Lynott and Darien NelsonHenry had 15 points, while Matt Staudacher added 13. Kelly Guy added 10, Jamal Muhammad had six and Cody Bernstein added four. In the girls’ game, which took place earlier in the evening, the Kangs won 42-33. Mount Si had the early lead, with the first quarter ending in their favor with a 11-8 score. After the second, in which the Lady Kangs scored 15, they never stopped. BRIEFS Boys basketball In their first meeting this season, the Lake Washington boys basketball dominated the Juanita Rebels. The Kangs won 78-39. The game started with a close first quarter, with Lake Washington holding an early 19-12 lead. Despite the physical game, the Kangs pulled away in the second quarter, scoring 20 points while keeping the Rebels to just nine. After the half, the lead widened with another 26 Kang points and eight for Juanita. Later into the game, foul trouble began to plague both teams, with key players taking a seat to avoid fouling out. In the final minutes of the game, Juanita battled back in with 10 more points, but at that point they couldn’t retake the Lake Washington lead. Darien Nelson-Henry led the Kangs with 16 points, while Kelly Guy had 15, Guy Lynott had 14, Matt Staudacher had 13 and Drew Heimdahl added 11. The next day the boys’ team traveled to Highline Community College for the Les Schwab Preview. The team faced Mount Rainier, winning 69-62. Both Nelson-Henry and Guy Lynott scored in the double digits during the game, earned 23 and 20 points respectively.

Mount Rainier held the lead at the beginning of the game, with the game at 25-17 at the end of the first. In the second Lake Washington roared back, scoring 16-10. Defense held Mount Rainier back in the second half, enough for the Kangs offense to take the lead. Staudacher had 13 points in the game, while Drew Heimdahl added 10 and Jeff Staudacher had two. The Juanita boys fell to Liberty Friday night during a conference match up in

the Rebels gym. The Patriots won 64-63. Liberty had the early lead, with a 15-10 spread at the end of the first quarter. Juanita scored 19 points in the second to take over on the top with a 29-28 game. In the second half Juanita once again outscored Liberty with a 15-13 third quarter. Things were tied up at end of regulation, but Liberty 23 points in the final minutes of the game sealed the win. Tynan Gilmore scored 25 points for the Patriots during the win. Ryan Reid had 15 points for Juanita, while Landyn Milburn had 14 and Brett Hamre added 11. Sean Brennan had nine, Avery Britton had seven and Ty Eng posted six. On Saturday the team traveled to Bellevue College for the Washington Hoop Challenge, where they beat Battle Ground 42-41. The first ended with a 6-3 lead for the Rebels, and they added another nine in the second half. Eleven points in the third quarter increased the lead, but Battle Ground edged in closer in the fourth with 22 points. Juanita held strong to take the win. Milburn had 14 points during the match, while Reid had 11. Eng posted nine points for the team while Hamre added eight.

Girls basketball In their first meeting of the season, Juanita edged out cross-town rival Lake Washington 52-40 on Wednesday evening at Finn Hill Junior High in Kirkland. The Kangs held the early lead by one point at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Rebels found their rhythm in the second quarter, to take the lead with 15 points for a 26-22 game. A close third quarter kept Juanita in the lead, but Lake Washington battled for 12 points, while keeping the Rebels from running away with just 13 points. But in the fourth quarter Juanita sealed their win, as strong defense held Lake Washington to six points, while the Rebels earned another 13. Kate Cryderman had 25 points for Juanita, a season high, while Peyton Wozeniak posted 12 for the Kangs. Molly Grager put up 14 for Juanita, Mikayla Jones added six, Winnie Levit had four and Bre Carter had three. Hunter Hopkins was slowed by Juanita, earning seven points during the game, while teammate Whitney Dunlap posted six, as did Sara Wilson.
