NaSAEP honours Education Minister, SA, Barr. Aigbefoh

T

he leadership of the National Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme (NaSAEP) has honoured the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, the Special Adviser to the Minister on project implementation, Dr Otunba Adewale Adenaike as well as the Vice Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) of Gwagwalada Branch, Barr. Ebosetale David Aigbefoh with merit awards for their selfless services to humanities. Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Dr Otunba Adewale Adenaike and Barr. Aigbefoh were honoured among other dignitaries during a one-day symposium organized by the leadership of NaSAEP at the podium of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. In his remark at the symposium, the Executive Director of NaSAEP, Dr George Korede Martins, said the awards were bestowed on the personalities based on their outstanding contributions in the society. Also speaking at the occasion, the Special Adviser to the Minister of State for Education on projects implementation, Dr Otunba Adewale Adenaike who represented the minister said the awards bestowed on him and the Honourable Minister was a challenge for them to do better. Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said his administration would continue to focus on the vocational education of the students to enable them to be self-reliant. In his speech at the event, the Vice Chairman of NBA, Gwagwalada Branch, Barr. Ebosetale David Aigbefoh said: “I am committed to support the advocate for proper Child Education in Nigeria which is believe to solve various insecurity challenges”.

NCC sensitizes journalists on 5G deployment in Kano

he Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has organized a capacity building workshop for journalists in Kano state on 5G deployment. Speaking at the opening of the workshop, held at Grand Central Hotel yesterday, the Executive Vice/CEO of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta described media as indispensable towards the success of the 5G deployment in Nigeria. According to him, the theme of the workshop is “5G Deployment and the Next Level of Nigeria’s Development.’’ is most apt at a time when the Commission is on full throttle to drive the implementation of the deployment of 5G, otherwise

called the Fifth Generation Network, in the country following the approval of the Federal Government on September 8, 2021. Represented by Ikechukwu Adinde, Director Public Affairs of the NCC, the CEO said, “as we progress in our journey of 5G deployment, the media has a critical role in the process by ensuring proper and adequate reportage of the programmes and activities of the Commission as it unfolds the 5G plan. “From the programme, I can glean that the workshop will feature topics around 5G to equip you with greater insights and knowledge in order to improve your overall understanding of this very important new technology, its usage, opportunities and benefits it offers for the overall development of our socioeconomic life,” Danbatta said.

He stated that Nigeria’s promising 5G Plan has the objectives of ensuring efficient assignment of spectrum for 5G deployment, creating an enabling environment for investment in the telecom industry, ensuring effective deployment of 5G to cover major urban cities by 2025, among others. The CEO disclosed that on December 1, 2021, the Commission announced that at the close of the bid submission date of November 29, 2021, three companies, namely MTN Nigeria, Mafab Communications Ltd and Airtel Networks Ltd had successfully submitted their bids in line with the requirements of the IM. He announced that Friday, December 10, the Commission will carry out the Mock Auction of the 5G in preparation for the Main Auction, which will take place on

Monday, December 13, 2021 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Prof. Danbatta also announced that it is expected that the two slots to be auctioned will be picked up by successful bidders at the end of the auction on Monday, December 13, and following that, the stage will be set for the next phase of 5G roll-out commencing in 2022. He thanked the media for the continuous support to the Commission through effective and unbiased reportage of our regulatory activities, programmes and events. “We are, therefore, committed to continuing to explore avenues to strengthen and expand the frontiers of our partnership in this regard in order to serve the greater interests of our teeming stakeholders in the telecoms industry, particularly the telecom consumers,” he said.

he leadership of Bomo Deoku Social Club Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) yesterday celebrated fifteen years’ anniversary as the club appealed for N 15million to build its hall in the area. Speaking to Peoples Daily correspondent during the

celebration of the anniversary in Zuba, the patron of the club, Dr Wasiu Tunwase, who is also the Otunba of Yoruba community in the FCT, urged the leadership of the club to continue to handle the club diligently. Tunwase said he would continue to support the club 100% in order to achieve its goals for the members. He noted that despite the

challenges faced by the club the leadership of the club had done a lot of things, and prayed for the executives to get more money to build the hall. He, explained that the executives, as well as the members of the social club, are always ready to take advice from the elders that will move the club to the next level. The Bomo Deoku Social

Club Patron, therefore, used the occasion to call on the entire Yoruba in the FCT to live as one indivisible entity for the sake of togetherness. When asked to comment on the 2022 FCT Area councils’ elections, Otunba charged the Yoruba to vote for credible candidates who would take them to the promised land.

Equal participation of persons with disabilities necessary- Rights Commission By Albert Akota

he National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has enjoined public and private sectors to ensure full implementation of and adherence to legal framework and policies put in place to promote accessibility and equal participation of persons with disabilities.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Tony Ojukwu. who stated this in commemoration of the 2021 International Day of Persons with Disabilities which comes up on 3rd of December yearly, stated that the celebration brings to the fore, the challenges faced by persons with special needs. The Commission noted that to enhance the enjoyment of human rights as provided

in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, their must be end to discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 as well as other human rights instruments. “This year’s theme which focuses on “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world” is

geared towards promoting the importance of inclusion and accessibility in every sphere”, Ojukwu added. The NHRC boss opined that for persons with disabilities to function effectively in the post COVID-19 world, deliberate efforts ought to be made by stakeholders to ensure equal space in decision making, politics, sports, leadership, ICT, etc.
