former contestant for the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s seat under the Congress for Progressive Change, Mal. Farouk Adam Dutsenwai has faulted the ban on Okada riders in Kano state. Mal. Farouk who made this observation to Peoples Daily in an interview in Kaduna, said it is unfortunate that there was an attack on the Emir of Kano but the reaction of the state government was too harsh. He said due to the insurgency in the north, the economy is being gradually killed making the Okada business, one of the biggest employers of youths in the region presently. Explaining that the biggest attacks in the north were executed using vehicles, he asked, " will you ban people from using cars?" The CPC stalwart said, banning of Okada riders was not the solution to insurgency in the nation, but a holistic approach to solving the issues of unemployment and poverty wrecking the nation. Mal. Faruk said, the Kano state government’s action would create a negative backlash and serve as a fertile ground for unemployed and angry youths to engage in criminal acts. "Of 10 Okada riders that will be unemployed by this ban, at least 4 will turn to criminal acts as a source of income", he observed. On the MEND threat, Mal. Faruk said, if carried out, would only do more harm to their cause than help it. The bill entitled, A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Character Commission (Establishment, etc) Act, Cap F7 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and for other Matters Connected Thereto (HB. 404) No resolution was made on the Bill because the various issues raised by the lawmakers became contentious, resulting in the Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal deferring ruling on it. Sponsor of the Bill, Rep. Bassey Ewa, (PDP Cross River State), while leading debate on the Bill, explained that the legislation was designed to remove the discrimination faced by Nigerian women in politics on the basis of their state of origin or marriage. He stressed that there were occasions when women were denied certain benefits because they were married to men from states other than their own, pointing out that such treatment was contrary to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

Gombe MDGs pledges to eradicate poverty

He said that the Dankwambo administration was capable of fulfilling the campaign promises made to the electorate in 2011. While commending the effort of the federal government, Alhaji Adamu said President Goodluck Jonathan took a wise decision in promoting the programme by ensuring its sustainability.
