News Bauchi Fed poly vows to curb sexual harassment

he Management of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi have vowed to use all institutional means at its disposal to deal with any lecturer that is found to be involved in sexual harassment of students. The Registrar of the Polytechnic, Hajia Rakiya Rabi, disclosed this during orientation for new students of the department of public administration organized by the National Association of Public Administration Students (NAPAS), Federal Polytechnic Bauchi chapter. She described the relationship between a lecturer and a student
at federal polytechnic, Bauchi likes that of a father and his children, advised students not to offer bribe or sex for better grades. Hajia Rabi said: “No student should offer bribe or sex to a lecturer for grades. The student also has a right to report any attempt to collect bribe or any sexual harassment to the school authority” She congratulated the new students for gaining admission into the polytechnic but warned that any one of them who handed over fake credentials to gain admission would be fished out. The registrar said: “The polytechnic usually carries out routine verification of credentials
used in securing admission into this institution,” she said. “I wish to inform you that you will not scale through if your credentials are found to be fake or have been altered as you will be expelled or withdrawn out rightly” Speaking on the topic Public Administration and Good Governance: The Missing Link, the Guest Speaker, Barrister Solomon Dalung, described public administrators as custodians of public trust. Dalong, urged the new students to see the profession as a noble one, because public administrators hold position of trust and therefore should always ensure that they do not violate the rules of public service
in order to have a good career. .“Operating outside the rules is bad governance. Unfortunately good governance is an offensive concept to most public servants in Nigeria today,” he observed He criticized law makers at both the federal and state level for making laws for their own selfish interest. “Corruption is the number one enemy of good governance. The second is injustice. The third is lack of equity, while the fourth is rule of law,” he said. According to him, when these four elements are absence in a government, “that government is anti-people, anti-God and you will have corruption flourishing.”

Road accident kills two, 13 others injured in Delta From Osa Eresoyen, Asaba

ghastly motor accident which occurred along Agbor – Abavo road Delta State in the early hours yesterday, claimed the lives of two persons while thirteen others were seriously injured. Reports said that the two
dead persons were among members of Royal Faith Chapel International returning from church activities held in Warri metropolis. It was gathered that one of the survivors of the accident narrowly escaped death after their motor ran into deep pot hole and crashed into the thick
forest. Speaking to our correspondent on his bed in one of the hospitals in Agbor where those who survived were rushed to, the survivor identified as John said the driver of the 18 – seater bus lost control while on top speed thereby causing it to summersault severally before
crashing into the thick forest. But the police public relations officer in the State, Dsp Celestina Kalu who confirmed the accident, blamed the accident on over speeding by the driver, adding that survivors of the accident were taken to private hospital in Agbor where they are now receiving treatment.
Chidoka calls for overhaul of aviation industry

viation Minister, Mr. Osita Chidoka yesterday reiterated the need for the country’s aviation industry to undergo a total overhaul that will ensure it contribute significantly to Nigeria Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The Minister explained that at the present 0.4 percent, the industry lack behind many airports in Africa, a situation he said is wearisome considering the huge potentials of Nigeria. Chidoka, who spoke during a media interface in Lagos where he outlined his plans and objective for the sector, said plans are underway to develop a master plan that will serve as a compass for future development. He said the ministry will among the short term, upgrade the Lagos and Abuja airports to meet the International Civil Aviation Organisation, ICAO standard by the Middle of 2015. Chidoka said part of the new reform will entail a review of the concession agreements entered into with various firms and the land use charge as well stop all non-essential training that are of no technical importance in the agencies under the ministry. He described as unacceptable the situation where administrative staff make up the bulk of staff in the industry and said he plans to ensure technical staff makes 60 percent of the industry. Chidoka berated the unruly activities of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Custom agents at the cargo terminal of the international wing of the Lagos airport. He said government will not be intimidated by blackmail insisting that the terminal will remain close until all sensitive security issues have been address. He said he has spoken to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor to exclude domestic airlines from accessing foreign exchange from inter-bank in order to stabilise ticket price. The Minister also said a private sector driven national carrier will be encouraged, while airfield lighting for 12 airports across the country will be upgraded to allow for a 24 flight operation.
KDSG cautions against stigmatizing people living with HIV/AIDS

s part of the celebration of World HID/ AIDs day, Kaduna state Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, yesterday cautioned against stigmatizing people living with HIV/AIDS in the state. The governor further urged that the state government is doing everything possible to provide adequate assistance to people living with HIV/ AIDs in the state. It could be recalled that kaduna
state coordinator of Network of people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, Benjamin Daniel said there are over 600,000 people living with HIV/AIDs in the state ,a figure, he said raised the HIV/ AIDS prevalence in the state from 5.2% to 9.2%. Speaking while commissioning a hospital complex, renovated and upgraded by Centre for Integrated Health Programme (CHIP) at Kagarko in the state, Yero reiterated his administration readiness to provide functional healthcare services for people of
the state. “It is wrong for people to stigmatize those living with HIV/ AIDs because it could be anybody. We must show them love since we cannot contact the virus by living together with them. “On behalf of Kaduna state government and good people of the state, I appreciate what CIHP has done and its campaign against the spread of HIV in the state. This is a proof that we are collectively working together to provide healthcare delivery for our people,” he said.
In her remarks, Chief Executive Officer of CHIP, Dr. Bolanle Oyeladun, said everybody living with the virus should not be discriminated against. She added that the agency trained about 22,000 service providers to assist in the fight against the virus in the state. Dr Bolanle said that people living with the virus have right to live and should not be
discriminated against. “We all know that you don’t catch HIV/AIDS by touching, sharing utensil and or sleeping on the same bed with people who are positive. We are all aware of ways through which people can contract HIV in Nigeria; through blood transfusion, sharing sharp objects, unsafe sex and all that. “We have been working with state ministry of health and KASACA in order to provide comprehensive quality HIV treatment services to the people of Kaduna state,” she said.
