working in post-production for the film and TV industry and moved to Langley recently from Abbotsford. After collecting art most of his adult life, he decided to try making some and found a new passion. Moes has lived in Langley most of her life, save for a stint in Nova Scotia when she studied international development at Dalhousie. That didn’t develop as planned. “I missed creating and moved back home,” Moes said. She’s recently graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley’s visual arts program. “The pieces for the show are part of a series I started in my last semester of university and have continued since,” she said. “They are embroidered (yes, thread) paintings of broken glass and embroidered prints of drawings I’ve done.” The show runs June 24 to July 10.

The family-run company is owned and operated by Ed Murphy, who is joined by his daughter Melodie and sons Chris and Todd. Murphy bought the 30-year-old business in 1994 and moved it to a nearby larger location where he expanded the operation from a one-garage bay to the existing 8,000-sq. ft. facility. Store manager Al Chrzanecki, who has been with the business for about a year and a half, said he is especially proud of the new hardware division. “We expanded the company by adding a hardware division, to the existing rentals and lawn and garden divisions,” Chrzanecki said. “It is going extremely well. It is continuously growing,” he added.

Whether buying or renting tools and equipment, or picking up a part to repair your lawn mower, Brookswood Rentals has the experience and expertise to help you get the job done. Brookswood Rentals is an authorized dealer for hard working, top-of-the-line name brands like Toro, Stihl, Lawn-Boy and Shindaiwa. Rentals include air tools, compressors, augers, compaction equipment, barbecues, generators, lifts, paint sprayers and pressure washers. Scaffolding, concrete equipment, sanders and many more tool and equipment rentals are also available. Serving both contractors and homeowners alike, Brookswood Rentals is there to help, and yes, they deliver.

“The support from the Brookswood community has been fabulous,” said Chrzanecki, who added that many customers comment they love that the store is right in Brookswood and they can avoid the busy downtown core. The hardware division was added to the already thriving business to make Brookswood Rentals a one-stop shopping hub for all lawn and garden needs.

onvenience is what brought them together to have an art show at the Fort Gallery. There was a slot open at the co-op. But the works of Fiona Moes and Bruce Giesbrecht has turned out to be the perfect complement for In Transition. His bold paintings, a total of seven works in the show, contrast when juxtaposed against her more moody works that incorporate everything from painting to photography to embroidery. Moes, 22, joined the gallery in February and most of the 2011 exhibition slots were filled. “I had a half-show spot with no partner so I was more than pleased to share this exhibition with her. I really enjoy her work and her talent,” said Giesbrecht. The 56-year-year-old has retired from
