McHappy Day raises $5K for non-profit Reach

Society is raising money for new centre in Ladner McDonald’s Restaurants longest running fundraising event, took place May 11 across Canada and despite the rainy weather customers came in droves to show their support. This year the Ladner and Tsawwassen McDonald’s once again chose local charity Reach Child and Youth Development Society for McHappy Day proceeds. Reach, a charitable non-profit organization, has been helping children with special needs and their families in Delta since 1959. A total of $5,000 was raised for Reach through the sales of coffee, Big Macs and Happy Meals. Customers also donated cash on top of their purchases. For the past several

years McDonald’s owner Steve Krawchuk has chosen Reach as the charity of choice for the Ladner and Tsawwassen McHappy Day. “You have no idea how much we appreciate having a loyal corporate sponsor like Steve Krawchuck and the support of the Ladner and Tsawwassen McHappy Day patrons,” said Irene Forcier, Chair of the Reach Child and Youth Development Foundation. “The funding from McHappy Day will go towards Reach’s Building for Children Together Campaign to develop a community based child development centre in Ladner so that more children with special needs can be supported more effec-

tively.” Reach’s campaign is raising $4 million for the new Reach Centre. The centre will be located beside the Ladner Pioneer library, where the Ladner Kin House is currently located. It will have therapy and counseling rooms, youth program areas, specialized lending libraries and an inclusive preschool with an accessible playground. The centre will also have an expanded events room for community workshops, and space for other organizations in the community supporting children and youth with special needs. Delta has provided the land. Proceeds from McHappy Day brings them one step closer to their goal.
