Ultimate game goes X-country Event raising awareness and funds

The Chilliwack Ultimate League is taking part in a Canadawide game of Ultimate frisbee June 17 from 10 to 11 p.m. under the lights at Townsend park. The event is a fundraiser for Boys and Girls Club Canada and Ultimate Peace.

Registration has begun the third annual Gold Medal Grizzly Volleyball Camp for all levels of male and female players from Grade 6 to 12. Returning coaches include Dale Ohman, Ross Ballard and Rod Belinski. Camp runs from July 11 to 15 at G.W. Graham middle secondary school. Email dave_allan@ me.com for more info.

Rugby tryouts for U16 Div

Learn to row program offered

The Chilliwack Rugby Club is sponsoring the Upper Fraser Valley Titans to compete in the U16 division of the BC Rugby Union Provincial Regional Championships. Trials are open to Fraser Valley athletes born in 1995 and 1996. Practices start now and competition will run through the summer. Contact titans@chilliwackrugby.com for more info. Registration for for the fall youth rugby season is also underway, with the club hoping to run teams in the U19, U17 and U15 divisions. Pool classes for kayaking The Chilliwack Centre of Excellence hosts pool sessions for beginner kayakers.

Learn to Row at Fraser Valley Rowing Club offers a Learn to Row program that consists of eight oneand-a-half-hour, on-thewater lessons. Cost is $100 for youth under 19 is $100 and $160 for adults. Spring soccer for seniors Spring soccer for seniors has begun and runs every Monday, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. until the end of June. Play takes place at Townsend Park. The emphasis is on keeping fit and having fun. Aggressive play, including slide tackling, is prohibited. Total cost is $20 per person. The first annual Mountainview Harley Golf Tournament takes place June 12. Tickets can be bought at Mountainview HarleyDavidson for $50. Proceeds go to Ride For Dad Prostate Cancer Research and Education.

One session runs from Mondays and Wednesdays until June 29 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Landing Leisure Centre. The other runs Tuesdays and Thursdays until June 30, from 4 to 5 p.m., or 5 to 6 p.m., at the Cheam Leisure Centre. Cost for either class is $250. For more information email jonallen@telus.net.

Iain Gardner, who started the drop-in Chilliwack Ultimate League more than a decade ago with his wife April, will likely be competing for team white, but ultimately everyone wins during this fundraiser. “Both organizations are great, and really with the way it goes both are going to get a good donation,” he said. The team with the most points after that will win 60 per cent of the funds raised for their charity, while the other team will receive 40 per cent of the donations for their cause.

Next Friday, the Chilliwack Ultimate League will take to the field at Townsend Park from 10 to 11 p.m., rain or shine, to play the second leg of the Art Hawkins Great Canadian Ultimate Game—a crossCanada game of ultimate that will be played in 27 communities over two days to raise money for Ultimate Peace (an organization that promotes world peace through the sport) and Boys and Girls Club of Canada.
