one artist over another? “The choices are made exclusively in your head, your intuition can lead you well but sometimes it make bad mistakes. You should have one eye on the piece and one on the international market, because these days that’s where all the movement is. That’s what lies behind the decision to open in London, where there’s a new atmosphere. Over the last forty years a combination of intuition and luck has allowed me to launch many artists and represent them around the world, with Mitoraj the most recent. My collectors trust me, my choices and advice, and that enhances a gallery owner’s reputation and credibility. In the next forty years I’d like to

consolidate what I’ve achieved in the first forty”. The Cortina gallery was opened in the 1990s. What’s changed since then? A lot, I should think... “I’m grateful to Cortina, it’s given me a lot, including my wife! I’ve had great professional fulfilment over the years, but I think that Cortina should now renew itself, open itself to the world of international tourism and shake off that exclusively Italian element. The reopening of the airport will play a crucial role, and we’re hoping to host the Ski World Championships in 2021. We all wish Cortina well, but change is needed if she is to return to her former glory”.
