Skid Row has at times remained hidden from tourists and visitors because it is not tourist friendly and if one’s curiosity compels a visit to the area, awareness of its unpredictable and unpleasant outcomes is recommended. Below are 10 safety tips while staying at Los Angeles: 1.

Do not carry all your cash in one place. Carry enough cash only for a few days. You can use your credit cards at almost all restaurants, shops, and hotels.

2.

Have a copy of your ID, credit cards, passport, or email them to yourself. In case they are lost, you can provide police with the required information.

3.

Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you. Make sure you are not chased.

4. Do not leave your valuables in a car, your jacket, or purse un attended. 5.

Don’t film or take a picture of the homeless. They do not like it and can put you in trouble.

6. If you want to talk to them or record them, first make sure they are comfortable with that. Talk to them in a friendly fashion. 7.

8.

Try not to walk through the neighborhood late at night and without at least someone accompanying you. Do not mistake homeless individuals for criminals, but be aware that criminals might deliberately hide their true identity by appearing homeless.

9. If you can avoid staying in the area overnight, especially past 5 P.M. There are neighborhoods closeby that offer affordable and safe lodging. 10.

Do not draw extra attention in the neighborhood. The residents would likely identify you as an outsider already, and drawing more attention might make you a more appealing target.
