RESUMEN: Si es cierto que actualmente se puede establecer con seguridad cuál fue el proceso de redacción de los escritos de Pedro Cieza de León, y conocer sin duda la azarosa vida de sus manuscritos y la versión original de los mismos, no cabe decir lo mismo de cómo transcurrió su propia vida. Se sabe más de su entorno familiar y de los acontecimientos que marcaron su biografía, al hilo de referencias personales en la narración de los hechos en los que intervino, o de los que tuvo información directa. Pero es más exacto hablar de su trayectoria vital que de una biografía propiamente dicha. De esa trayectoria sí da cuenta el Príncipe de los Cronistas en las frecuentes alusiones a sí mismo que salpican su obra, pero lo hace desde una cierta distancia personal. Es el lector de su obra el que debe analizar e interpretar el significado y el valor de sus juicios personales sobre las gentes con las que compartió sus experiencias en los muy diversos lugares de la geografía andina de la que nos ha dejado una descripción rigurosa e inteligente.

ABSTRACT: It is true that today is possible to determine most certainly what was the process of writing of the chronicles of Pedro Cieza de León, and certainly know the eventful life of his manuscripts and the original version of them. But it is not possible to determine how he spent his own life. We know more about his family environment and the events that marked his biography, because of personal references in the narration of the events in which he was involved, or in which he had direct information. That is because is more accurate to speak of his trajectory than of his biography. The Prince of the Chroniclers gave information about his trajectory in the frequent allusions to himself in his work, but he does from a certain personal distance. Is the reader who must analyze and interpret the meaning and value of his personal judgments about the people with whom he shared his experiences in the very diverse places of the Andean geography of which he has left us a rigorous and intelligent description.
