ast the gates of the 110-acre Full Moon Mule Co. ranch, among the Longhorn-Watusi cattle and a menagerie of other four-legged friends, one is likely to find Kathie McGee and wirehair fox terrier, Baxter, in the barn with her mules. Kathie began riding in leadline classes when she was 5 years old. She immediately fell in love and has been riding ever since. “It’s in my blood now, and it’s just one of those things that you always do,” she said. Kathie started training Quarter Horses and Paint horses for western pleasure. She

said as a trainer she took many clients to the Color Breed Congress and Pinto World Championship shows during the years before retiring. However, Kathie was not retired for long before she decided to try working with mules. “She tried to sit at home and couldn’t do it,” said Don McGee, Kathie’s husband. “She just woke up and told me, ‘I want to do something, and I want to try these mules.’” Don said mules and donkeys have always been a part of his life. He was raised on a farm and always had some type of equine around him, whether a horse, a donkey or a mule.
