By the Numbers

In the span of 25 short years, Pinnacle has grown to be one of the largest one hundred and fifty among the over 10,000 congregations in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) denomination. During this time, Pinnacle has shared God’s story and expressed God’s love through preaching, teaching, discipleship, mission and caring.

Worship is casual traditional, filled with joy and music. Ministries for children, youth and adults explore a broad range of faith expression, honor questions and respect individuality. Ministries of compassion and social change work locally and globally to embody love, respect and Christian hope for all. Activities include all generations for mutual support in time of need, social fellowship, education, music and mission. We are people who know the power of forgiveness, joy and love.

1888

U.S. Army Chaplain Winfield Scott homesteaded land that would become the settlement bearing his name, Scottsdale, AZ. Until his death in 1910, Rev. Scott, a Baptist minister, was a leader of the Salt River Valley faith community, served in the Territorial Legislature, co-founded the Scottsdale School District and was a champion of Scottsdale as a great place for farming, tourism, health care and raising a family. 1951

1956 Valley Presbyterian held its first service in Desert School of Art, Paradise Valley By 1980 Presbytery of Grand Canyon purchased five acres on the northwest corner of Pima and Happy Valley Roads in north Scottsdale for a future church.

More than 60 years after its founding, Scottsdale finally incorporated as a town on June 25, with a population of 2,032 living on less than half a square mile (now Scottsdale’s downtown district). 1981
