Welcome Exminster Golf Centre, one of the friendliest clubs in Devon, is only five minutes’ drive from Exeter and the M5, yet offers peace and tranquillity with great views across 55 acres of beautiful countryside. Our course was designed with the help of former English champion and Exminster PGA Professional, Jon Langmead, with the aim of making it challenging for new and experienced golfers alike. The 18-tee, nine-hole, par-66 layout has undulating fairways, providing 5,255 yards of great golf. The majority of the course enjoys stunning views of the Exe Estuary and with our fantastic free-draining soil we hardly ever close. The club has been progressive ever since its inception, with developments and continual investments being made by the Candy family who own the centre.

We provide everything that a golfer would expect at a well-established club. Jon Langmead and his team are on hand in the Pro Shop, which stocks a full range of equipment and clothing, while expert tuition and extensive practice facilities offer the opportunity to work on your game and lower your handicap. Our recently-extended clubhouse has excellent facilities including a licensed bar, a restaurant serving tasty home-cooked food. The clubhouse can also be used as a function room where wedding receptions, parties and business functions take place throughout the year. We work hard at ensuring we provide everyone with a fantastic service so come and see what makes us special.

About the Course Exminster Golf Centre is an 18-tee, 9-hole, payand-play course that measures 5,255 yards, with a par of 66.

While those enjoying a good day with the flat stick are likely to prosper, there are a number of testing holes that examine all parts of one’s game.

While the perfect course for inexperienced or beginner golfers, it also offers a serious and interesting test to the better player.

The par-4 fifth, for example, is the toughest hole on the card for good reason. A dog-leg right, this hole requires an accurate drive, two shots across a water hazard and a well-guarded green.

The majority of the course enjoys stunning views of the Exe Estuary and free draining soil means that we are open when others aren’t. The course features superbly contoured greens, interesting natural water hazards and a host of strategically placed bunkers. It is maintained year round to a high standard, with minimal need for temporary tees and greens.

The signature hole of the course is the par three, 136yard fourth, which requires a precise tee shot in order to carry the pond system and leave you with a fighting chance for par.

Course Guide If you have never played at Exminster Golf Centre before you are in for a treat. Make the most of your trip by learning about some of the pitfalls that lie in wait and how to avoid them as you follow our hole-by-hole tour. Hole 1, 385 yards, par 4 A dog-leg right and downhill approach to the green starts the round. A drive of 250 yards is needed to reach the corner of the dog-leg. Hole 2, 160 yards, par 3 A long par three, Be careful with your approach to the putting surface, as a bunker-guarded green with banking lies in wait.

8

www.exminstergolf.com

Hole 3, 338 yards, par 4 A side hill and downhill par four that contains a slight right to left dog-leg leading down to a well-guarded green. Short is better than long on your approach. Hole 4, 136 yards, par 3 The signature hole of the course, this short par three requires accuracy with your tee shot in order to carry the water hazards. Hole 5, 352 yards, par 4 The hardest hole on the course and Stroke Index 1 for good reason. A slightly uphill par-4 left-to-right dog-leg, this hole requires a drive up the valley, across a water hazard and back across the water hazard to a wellguarded green.

Hole 6, 196 yards, par 3 Accuracy is key on this par three, with a drive across the valley and stream to a large, elevated green that is bunkered and banked at the rear.

Hole 9, 175 yards, par 3 A worthy par three finishing hole across a valley to an elevated and banked green with a steep approach.

Hole 7, 387 yards, par 4 This par 4 requires a downhill drive before a gentle uphill approach. Be careful on your second shot as a well-guarded green provides mounds and bunkers to scupper your thoughts of an easy par. Hole 8, 478 yards, par 5 A short par 5 but normally into the prevailing wind with a steep uphill finish, featuring out-of-bounds all the way along the left-hand side.

The Professional and the Pro Shop The Head Professional and Golf Director at Exminster Golf Centre is Jon Langmead. Jon and his team including three more qualified PGA Professionals, Mike Rowett, Andy Fox and Jody Bee provide a welcoming reception area, which doubles up as a wonderfully stocked golf shop too. With approaching 25 years’ as a Professional and over 100 tournament victories, including the English Championship, Jon has amassed a wealth of golfing knowledge that he is happy to pass on in order to help you improve and enjoy your golf. Jon is also proud to be the head coach to the golf team at Exeter University who recently became British Champions and ranked Number 1 in the country.

14

www.exminstergolf.com

The team are on hand in the Pro Shop to give firstrate advice, while offering a comprehensive stock of equipment. Come and talk to them about the equipment you need, whether you’re just beginning to learn golf, or you’re a seasoned player seeking to improve your game. The shop stocks a wide range of quality golf equipment at very competitive prices with the added benefit of being able to try before you buy. Better still, why not have your clubs custom fitted? Jon and his team also specialise in custom-fitting clubs so that the golfer can have a set of clubs made specifically suited to their specifications, rather than having to adapt their technique to fit a piece of equipment bought off the rack.

Every golfer is different in size, swing characteristics and strength and with a Fitting Centre now based at our Pro Shop, it is easier than ever to customise your golf club. Specially-created software sifts through the mass of shaft options to select the optimal match, based on Swing DNA recorded by the Shaft Optimizer. Customising the clubs to position the golfer in the ideal position for their physical characteristics will train them to address the ball with the correct posture and swing along the ideal swing plane, which all adds up to the correct impact position and better scores.

Combined with our competitive prices and a wide range of different products and brands readily available, whatever your budget or handicap we can make sure your needs will always be met. To contact Jon with your equipment queries and buying advice, pop in and see him in the Pro Shop or call 01392 976 075.

The Pro Shop is also the place to go to hire pull trolleys, while electric buggies can be hired too, although booking in advance is advisable.
