Italian Beets

Germ 5-10 days The bright purple color distinguishes this medium sized beet from all others. The early beets are very uniform with concentric lighter circles like the growth rings of a tree. Flavor is very sweet and when boiled, beets create a fuchsia colored dye. 100 seeds $1.50

Broccoli

PLANTING:

Indoors- 4-6 weeks before last frost and 1/4” deep with soil temperature at 6575 degrees. Liquid fertilize seedlings every 7-10 days. Transplant out just before last frost. Outdoors– Early spring until mid summer for fall crops. Plant 1/2” deep and 6” apart. Thin seedlings to 18” apart. Harvest- Pick when heads are tight before flower buds starts to open. For varieties that produce side shoots keep picked for a longer production Tips- A heavy feeder; transplant/direct seed into well composted soil and side dress when buds begin to form.

Germ 3-10 days Ten inch medium green heads are produced on 16-18 inch plants. In our garden, this variety invariably produces those big heads like you get in a grocery store. 45. GYPSY (F1 HYBRID 57 DAYS)

Germ 3-10 days Heat tolerance is the virtue usually mentioned that sets Gypsy apart from other broccoli varieties. It is a good choice for growing in the South and also for later plantings in the North that will be maturing in the heat of August. The plants are very vigorous with a strong stalk and energetic root system. Color is a paler green – you don’t get the bluish tinge present in some varieties. Resists downy mildew and tastes good, with a strong broccoli flavor. 30 seeds $1.50
