POOL CARE There are 5 basic 'Pillars of Pool Care' that will keep your pool looking good and safe to swim in. 1. Circulation: The more water moves around the better. Bacteria and Algae will thrive in still, stagnant water.

2. Filtration: This removes both visible debris as well and microscopic matter. Make sure the filter is clean (there are various ways of chemically achieving this) and as a rule of thumb, if older than 3 years, change it.

3. Cleaning : Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to get the water to circulate to every part of the pool, automatic pool cleaners also tend to miss certain areas. It is a good idea to brush the walls and floor manually once a week.

4. T esting : It is essential to check the Chlorine and pH levels of the pool on a weekly basis. Then you will be able to add smaller quantities of chemicals on a regular basis and avoid the dreaded 'shock treatment' when the colour of pool water is a better shade of green that your lawn.

5. C hemistry : A balanced pool is an easy to look after pool and it will protect the pool surface and equipment as well. The various methods of sanitising your pool, range from the standard Chlorine application, floating pills and monthly floaters to automated systems such as salt chlorination. For more information, consult your pool professional. 
