Chi Omega Announced as IU Sing Pair

Coming off a strong 4th place finish last year in the IU sing competition with Delta Gamma, we are proud to say that our pair this year is the highly regarded women of Chi Omega. IU Sing is a competition in which fraternities and sororities pair up and perform synchronized dances to various songs in hopes of ultimately attaining

the first place title. The event raises money for scholarships for Indiana University. Some rule changes this year have resulted in our house being paired with two other Greek houses for the first time ever. The trio of Pi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Theta, and Chi Omega can only have 80 participants total, so not all of the current Alpha

Psi associates will be able to compete. For the first time ever, tryouts will be held to determine which of the current 38 associates will be given the privilege to represent Alpha Psi and Pi Kappa Phi in IU Sing. IU sing will take place on Friday and Saturday, February 20-21rd at the IU auditorium.

Chapter Update

“We plan to initiate 32 new members”

The past two years have had its ups and downs for Alpha Psi. Shortly after the Indiana Daily Student announced that Pi Kappa Phi was the Best House on Campus at Indiana University according to their student survey in the fall of 2007, our chapter underwent member review for hazing allegations relating to inappropriate actions taken on the Alpha Pi associate class’ “Dad’s Night”. Representatives from Nationals came and interviewed all the then current brothers and placed 9 on early alumni status due to their lack of positive contribution to the house. It was a difficult time for Alpha Psi in which many brothers reevaluated their commitment to the house as to whether it could be improved upon or not. On a more positive note, January 1st marked the

first time in over 3 years that Alpha Psi became completely free of any social or disciplinary probation. With a blank slate at the start of the 2009 spring semester, our chapter is now headed in the right direction and hopes to make our way towards candidacy for the Kroeg award very soon. In the spring of 2009 we plan to initiate 32 new members of the Alpha Sigma associate class and plan on accepting a spring semester associate class of 20 or more. A re-

newed interest in PUSH America led by Rob Zimmerman, as well as an overwhelming sense of striving to become the very best we can be, Alpha Psi has never looked so good. 81 members currently live in the house, and we look to have enough spring associates to fill the 93 spots we need to be living in next year to be deficit-free. Although we are on a very tight budget this year because of reduced live-ins, thanks to generous donations from parents and the cooperation of alumni, we have still managed to add a brand new deck in the back of the house. Barb still serves as house director, and the brothers continue to do the right things under her guidance and the chapter execs’ leadership.
